Navy For Moms

My son called today and seemed so down. He is starting week 4 of BC and has had knee pain for weeks. It is so bad now that they are sending him to the medics to see what is going on. He is so afraid that he will be discharged for medical reasons. Has anyone been through something like this? He has been so upbeat the last 2 times we've talked to him and so excited about the Navy that we don't know what will happen if he is discharged. He was set to graduate 12-24 and now we don't know what will happen.

Take a deep breath mom! it is not as bad as it may seem. He will be sent to medical to have an eval he may be placed on SIQ (sick in quarters) for a few days to see if they can relieve the pain with anitinflamitories. They do not want to set him back unless he needs to be out for an extended period of time. Lets see what they have to say in medical he has not been sent to ship 17 at this time (ship 17 is for discharge) They do have another "ship" for those that are recouping and will go back to a division in boot camp. this may just be a "quick fix" so do not think that he will be discahrged automaticly at this time.

Please keep me posted as to his progress and if there is anything I can help you with

Click on groups on the top and than type in Ship 17, the people in there have dealt with all kinds of discharges.

I agree with Karen, it may not be as bad as it seems at the moment. My son twice had to go to medical due to leg pain. He was placed on restricted physical activity (maybe that's the SIQ Karen mentions), and he graduated on time and is now in A School and soon to graduate that as well. So hang in there and see what happens. The Navy tries to keep them and tries to get them to graduate on time if it is possible.

Relax, and remember you are hearing one side. You do not know what the medics are saying. I am sure he will be fine, he probably pulled something that may take some time to heal. They don't send people home unless 100% necessary.
