Anyone staying at the Residence Inn in Waukegan who has someone PIR on 03/13/09 or in Division 916? My son-in-law Coby is in division 916 and we will be staying at this hotel. We will be arriving the Thursday before and staying until Sunday. (That is if PIR date doesn't change).

Best wishes to everyone and their families.

Hi Lisa, I just made my reservations for the Residence Inn Marriott Waukegan. Same dates as you. My son is in a different division than your son-in-law. He's in 120. I believe your son-in-law is in the band/drill division. I'm sure we will see you there.

Renee,
It will be a fun weekend I'm sure. We are looking forward to PIR although we have a huge problem. Coby's parents are going to PIR and my daughter is going which means that either me or my husband can go since recruits are only allowed four guests. Which ever one doesn't go I guess could stan in the line and wait to see if seating is available, but that seems miserable. It will work out in the long run I'm sure. My daughter is thinking she doesn't want to take the baby in case she decides she wants to be fussy. We have sometime to figure that out - a few weeks anyhow.

Where are you from? It should only take us 3-4 hours to get to Waukegan depending on the time we leave Thursday. I would like to leave early enough so we don't hit the rush hour in and around Chicago.

I hope to be able to meet you and your family while at the hotel. I'm sure there will be lots of other PIR parents staying at the Residence Inn.

Do you know if your son will have Liberty for the weekend or is he a Grad N Go? Coby supposedly won't leave for A School until Monday and will have Liberty for the weekend (will have to report to base in the evenings at the set time they determine), but we aren't counting on it because I've read this gets changed often up until PIR. We hope he gets Liberty so he can spend time with his baby girl and our daughter before heading to CT. Where is your son going to A School at?

I look forward to hearing from you,
Lisa

Lisa,

My husband and I are flying out from CT Thursday afternoon and arrive at O'Hare @ 2:05. Maybe we will miss rush hour! Only two of us are going so there should be a couple of extra seats that you could use. My son hasn't sent out our grad package yet so I'm not sure if he knows if he is grad n' go or will have liberty. I'm really crossing my fingers for liberty! My son will be going to A school in Pensacola.

Hi Renee,
I am Jon's mom, he's in Div 120 and I am leaving Thursday afternoon from Bradley (at least I think CT means your are flying from Conn) as well, but my flight doesn't get in until 3 or so. I'm staying at the Candlewood Inn. Jon is also scheduled to go to Pensacola too, but I do not know if he is Grad and Go. He indicated that he would have liberty, but I know these things change. I'm a bit worried because the last time I talked to him he was really sick--cold, eye infection, the whole works-- and I haven't heard a word since, over 2 weeks! Hopefully he is still scheduled to graduate this Friday! Perhaps I will see you at the airport or on Friday!

I was told that if everyone is in the same car that all of you can go. I will let you know because we have 5 and our PIR is Feb27th. So just remind me when I get back and I will let you know. I am also staying at the Residence Inn so I can let you know about that too!

Cathy,
I'm so glad your stay was nice. I have a feeling that we will be spending lots of time in our room since my son-in-law, daughter, and their baby haven't seen each other for the 9 weeks. I think they will want to spend some quiet time. We got a two bedroom suite for that purpose. It sounds like we made a wise decison to stay there.

Thanks so much for the info and I hope things go well for your son in his future endeavors in the Navy.

Hi cathy,

I was just wondering how much your stay was at residence inn. Also, do all the rooms have a kitchen? I was also wondering how often the van leaves for the walmart or if it just leaves when you ask since i want to pick up a lot of groceries. Thanks :)

Minerva,

Residence Inn has a Graduation rate of $69 a night IF you ask for the graduation rate. This will get you the standard studio room. I upgraded to an $89 a night 1 Bedroom room (which Marriot.com was offering $50 off your next stay if you did this).

I've NEVER been disappointed with The Residence Inn...and at $69 a night that's AMAZING!

Hello Ladies, Just to give you some information on the Residence Inn in Waukegan. I just returned from my son's PIR last weekend (2/27/09) We stayed there from Thursday until Sunday. You couldn't pick a more fabulous hotel. We stayed in a 2 room suite. 5 of us stayed in the rooms. It was so nice and we had a fireplace, a kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. It was nice for when my son came back with us. He could relax and spread out and even brought a friend with him on Sunday. For the $139.00 a night it was great. The breakfasts were very good and the people at the desk could help us with everything we needed. It was very centrally located and was about 4 minutes from the base and Flannigans as well. I insisted my husband drive to the graduation which wasn't a problem, but as for my idea of being first in line, there is really no need. I am a little high strung so we all got up at 4:30 A.M. and had breakfast and were the first in line which meant they turned us around at the gate and said go away until 6:30. I took a lot of ribbing over the weekend on this. There are really no bad seats for the graduation so take your time and don't hurry to be first. It is a wonderful graduation and you will enjoy it even if your are the last one there.
