Navy For Moms

My youngest son went to boot camp 2 years ago. I am so happy we were able to be there for his PIR! ( My parents came all the way from Florida!) It is such a wonderful experience- -for all!
I can still hear my son's words to me after the ceremony. He said "Boot camp was tough sometimes, but I would do it all over again for that ONE MOMENT when they opened the big door and there are hundreds of family/friends there cheering and clapping for us! That was amazing and made it all worth it!"

My son PIR'd almost a year ago and I'd say the same thing. Don't miss it! Start saving $$ now. Do whatever you can to raise $$ - garage sales, an extra job... whatever it takes. This is one of the proudest moments in your sailor's career and s/he will want you to be a part of it!

Hi Pam - I have a question about PIR - the web site says my son is scheduled for July 17 - Div #835. His dad and I are divorced. The group for July 17 is made of 13 groups. I understand that this typically means on 4 tickes per recruit. I plan to go to PIR and am brining my son's girlfriend - I'd like for my fiance to be able to come as well. I know G's dad is also going with his sister and a friend. Is there any way to find out if we can get more tickets? My fiance doesn't want to drive 10 hours to get there then not be able to share in this wonderful experience. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks, Pam. When I finally get to communicate with him (LOL) I will ask him to be sure he takes care of that....and I'll remind him in each letter!!!! That's a big relief to know I won't have to make that drive alone - it scares me! But then again, G plans to be a SEAL - how dare I - proud mom - be scared to drive to Chicago!!!!! Huh? LOL How have things been for your salor? And for you back home?????

You are welcome!
I know what you mean- -I had to "toughen up" real quick last fall because Travis volunteered to deploy with SEALs to Iraq. He was land based and didn't have to go, but he wanted to. I was a basket case for the first few weeks, but then he got online every few days and I could talk to him! Of course, I still worried about him, especially when he didn't get online for 3-4 days or I heard about "action" near his base. And since there is a 9-10 hour time difference, I sat up many nights waiting to hear from him.
Travis is doing VERY well...he just made E5 last month- -in less than 2 years! He is very happy with his choice to become a sailor, he loves his job, and he loves living in San Diego. So, I am good! :o)

Hi Love my G,
My husband is driving thru Chicago as I type...I am on his laptop with an aircard!!!! It is not bad at all. If you have a GPS is is really easy. Tolls are a little bit of a pain in the neck...just make sure you have change with you. My son's PIR is tomorrow (6-12-09)..we are staying in Waukegan. If you have any questions, please ask.

We are staying at the Residence Inn in Waukegan and it is very nice, clean, and very close to the Base...about 5 minutes away! The decor is a tiny bit dated...but vey spacious. We like it so far!!!

That is what I am trying to find out also, have you heard anything. My sons graduation is July 31.

Ladies,
Can you answer this for me? I am assuming since Sam is in SEALS and will be staying in Chicago up to 2 months after grad, he will have the weekend of grad off to spend with us. Do they have to be back on base or check in every night? We were thinking of taking him further out of Chicago for the weekend. Vicki

Well, Travis had to be back to the base by 8-9PM each night, then we could pick him back up in the morning. I was thinking they had to stay within so many miles from the base, but I guess I'm not quite sure about that. We stayed pretty close, because the traffic can be almost stand-still sometimes, with all the visitors, and they get in a lot of trouble if they don't report back on time. Make sure he asks questions before you take him too far away!!
