Talk to a recruiter first. Not sure about reserves, but you would not be allowed to enlist active without a waiver because you have too many dependents.
My husband just joined the Reserves - he's at boot camp right now. We have 3 kids, and had to get special waivers signed because we have so many kids. Good luck!
My husband is a recruiter and he said since you have four children and you are married that you more than likely would not be allowed to join the reserves. There are some people that are allowed to with special waivers but you 5 dependents and not the normal 4 that they waive. But best of luck if they let you join. I wish my husband would go reserve when is time is finished. Its not a whole lot of pay but he still would be in the military serving his country.
"Reserves can and are called to up to Active duty and sent over in the Sandbox."

They sure can. A friend I work with was called up and won't return until May--two years and two months after he departed. These two years in the sandbox cost him his family. It's a sad situation all around and I hope, as does his wife, that they'll be able to put it back together again upon his return.
This is to the recruiters wife, my son has a mild heart murmur, would he be allowed to join the reserves?
Something to concider...... my son is a Navy Rerservist and just returned from deployment in Iraq..... if you join the reserve their is a strong possibility that you will be deployed.
