I will be going to Great Lakes on January 8th for my son's graduation on the 9th. Do you get to see your child before the Graduation? How long do you get to spend with your child after the ceremony? My son told me he has Liberty that weekend. Does that mean he is able to spend the whole weekend with us? Is there anything special I should know or do prior to going to the ceremony or to Great Lakes? I already see how bad the weather in Chicago is. Thank you!

Our GIL grads on that day too!, We are from CALIF, staying at the Marriott in the grad brochure. Did you get one?, if not send me a fax number & I'll send it to you. I dont know anything about grad n go, or when they would tell us. I hope not because we want to spend the whole weekend with him.

Hi Charlotte, my son is also a Nuke. He doesn't PIR until April 10, 2009 but it would help me to know what plans to make. If you find out please share with me the type of leave to expect.

We stayed at the Navy Lodge for PIR and were very pleased with the location and accommodations. Jason graduated on Friday, 3/13/09, and had liberty for the weekend. We were able to extend our stay an extra day to do some sightseeing with him. We went to the Jelly Belly Factory in WI on Saturday. It was fun and they gave everyone some free jelly beans. We had to leave on Sunday for the 12 hour drive back to Alabama. On Tuesday, 3/17/09, Jason and the other Nukes were flown to SC. He has called us almost every day. We have a list of things that he wants us to bring to him....laptop, cell phone, pillow, etc. We are planning to go next weekend.
This is all I know for now. Best wishes to your recruit! He will be a Sailor soon.

We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn when my son graduated. It is literally four lights away from the Naval Base. It is also affordable. We found that by going through Hertz and saying that we were there for the PIR it was cheaper than any other car rental. Have fun!
