Does anyone know how important it is to get tickets that are refundable, in case graduation date changes. How often does this happen?  Any suggestions on flights in general,

We also live in CA - when we went to PIR in 2012 we used Southwest.  We still use them in most cases because they will let you make changes with no change fee (just the difference in ticket price if any). Also, if for any reason you don't use the ticket with Southwest you have 1 year from the date of purchase to use it..... You could use another airline & purchase the insurance but that can be expensive.

Other reasons to fly Southwest:

Generous free allowance on checked baggage.

They fly into both Chicago-Midway and Milwaukee. Milwaukee is a good choice if your Sailor is staying on at GL for A school.

I live in CA also and use Frontier Airlines to fly into chicago o'hare... Round Trip for 2 with 2 bags each, choice on where to sit in plane and able to change flight date if needed: $600.00

what airport did you fly into?

Did you have to rent a car?

I purchased mine from Southwest for PIR on 3/25, Easter weekend! But price wasn't so bad. This will be my first Southwest flight.

I bought 4 tickets through Frontier and added the works so it would be refundable 1075.00 for all 4 of us.

I used Frontier as well - 4 of us 250.00 per person
