Navy For Moms

Some say that you don't have to renew your license when you are in the navy but when i go on sec state of michigan it said you need to renew them on the leave or contact them for papers to do it by mail. What is the right thing?

I would do what is specific for the state I lived in.
Thanks
My son was in Fl & had to get his renewed there. Moved to VA & they told him to leave address since navy until next update is required.
My son is driving a truck in Virginia with Texas plates on it. I want his address on his driver's license to be Texas!!
He does not have a "permanent" address in Virginia because it changes about every six months. This way he has an address that is permanent and I just send him any mail that comes here to him (where ever he is)!!
Never heard that you do not need to renew your license while in the Navy. But my son is from CA and is stationed in WA. He renews his license every year for CA.
You have to renew your license in the State of MI. My son just renewed his by mail and they sent it to us and we sent it on to him. The one good thing at least it is every 4 yrs.
For the state of New York you should fill out Form MV-75 Notification of Military Service. If your license expires while on active duty they will not purge your file. NYS law automatically extends license privileges throughout active military service for up to 6 months after discharge or separation.
Thanks
Every state is different, check with the DMV of the state in question. I am from WI and I had to send in proof I am in the USN, and my hubby is from WA his license says MIL on it and doesn't expire until he gets out of the USN.
I was from FL, when it came time for renewal all I had to do contact the state, they sent me a sticker to place on the back of my license. If you ever get stopped be sure to show them you military ID with your license. The only problem was when my husband changed insurance company's they could find no record of me, period.
The next time I was home for something I went to the licensing office and got an update.
Now days you can also renew online in most states.
Good Luck

Thanks for your help. My son was just told he didn't have to so I think is not going to do anything but I going to tell me he should renew it by the mail. Thanks
State specific, Kansas gives you 6 months after expiration if you are active duty. His is Dec. 24 and he will be 21 so he really wants a state issued DL. Still shows his military ID when needed but wants his state one before he goes anywhere, but finding a day they are open when he will be home is always an interesting prospect and adventure. LOL. Tell him to get one just for emergency.
