Navy For Moms

Some say that you don't have to renew your license when you are in the navy but when i go on sec state of michigan it said you need to renew them on the leave or contact them for papers to do it by mail. What is the right thing?

Dependants have 30 days to get new license. But I believe it is different in every state. We came from IL. and as long as you can produce a valid active duty military id then the license was valid even if it said it expired. Though it was that way when we where active duty they might have changed it. But it was a hassel, he got a few tickets and we had to produce IL. law when he went to pay ticket and it always got dropped, the driving on expired license. But it was a hassle.
We, my son and I went to the DMV and had to get a paper to do it by mail. I didn't really read the paper because he doesn't have to do it until October. We live in Alabama
We are from Michigan as well and my hubby always renewed his license while he was a sailor, we were able to keep our cars titled and licensed in Michigan as well ...it was much more affordable than California plates were!
Thanks
Here in Texas, you don't have to renew - your military id is sufficient to show if you are pulled over while driving. Hubby is a deputy sheriff and verified this. I thought my son was wrong but Hubby said he's right. I would do whatever your State requires. And if it doesn't require it, I think I would still renew it - if it were me...............
You definitely should renew the license, either by mail, on-line or in person. Very important if he comes home on leave or decides to rent a car somewhere. Before my son left for boot camp, I had him sign a power of attorney form. I went to DMV and had no problem renewing his license and car reg for him. I left with the temporary documents in hand. When the permanent DL arrives, I'll mail it to him.
In Arizona licenses are issued to expire on your 65th birthday, which eliminates the issue of expiration while on active duty. If you can believe this, my son's license does not expire until 2051!!
That's kind of funny. Imagine the confusion for the cop if you are hypothetically 58y/o and get pulled over but you got your liscense and pic at 18 or 19y/o. lol With all the surgical enhancements that can be done. that would be one big mess.
Hi... I am in Michigan and my son's diver's license expired while he was stationed in Sicily. I called the Secretary of State's office and they said he could renew the next time he was home on leave with no penalty. He had no problems renewing and I mailed it to him.

He did have a problem renewing the plates on his truck in Texas. He bought the truck in Virginia and was transferred to TX. TX wanted him to pay the difference between VA state sales tax and TX state sales tax. He didn't renew in TX, transferred back to VA and was able to renew his plates with no penalty.
Every state is different. Check out your state's DMV website, I would think every state has one now. Oh the convienence of the internet. You can probably get your answer there. I know in NY you can renew your liscense online.
Hi there- I am also a Michigan Mom and my son's license needed to be renewed when he turned 21 in April, but he is out of the country. The SOS office told me that when he does come home on leave, he just needs to bring in all of the paperwork, with his SS card, and military ID, and they will renew the picture and license (remember here in Mich the license changes from vertical to horizontal when turning 21). Let's hope it works as planned when he gets home!! I hope this helps.
