Some say that you don't have to renew your license when you are in the navy but when i go on sec state of michigan it said you need to renew them on the leave or contact them for papers to do it by mail. What is the right thing?

There are forms here in Indiana, to have your Sailor fill out, take to a bank to have them notorized and then keep a copy hand a copy to BMV and you now have the power to ask questions and fill paper work out for everyone. Im sure its different no matter what State your in though. *L* After all it is Goverment at its finest, 10 answers for one question!!! Oh how I hate to go to BMV!! :)
My son was also informed by the Navy that he did not have to renew his driver's license; however about six months afterwards he was training to run the trucks that move the planes on the flight deck. When it came time for him to be tested (by the Navy), he was told he needed to have a current license. All he did at that point was contact the DMV and they sent him a new license.
Who in the USN told him that he didn't have to renew his license? Just because someone is in the USN doesn't mean they don't have to have a current license with the state.
My husband who is now retired did not ever have to renew his. It was issued by the state of IL. as long as he had and ACTIVE military ID, no other states required HIM to get a new one. Dependants on the other hand do have to. His license was issued on July 25, 1987 and he did not have to do anything till he retired. I would check with each state since it seems to be different.
Each state is different, what EVERYONE needs to do is check the DMV in their state.
We are in Calif and my son's drivers licence was going to expire last month in June. He has been in Great Lakes for over a year now. The Calif DMV said he still needed to renew, but once we explained he was active military, they said he needed to apply for an extension! After a few phone calls, he had to fax a copy of his Calif Drivers Licence and a copy of his orders showing where he was stationed. About a week later, he received his extension, which was just a small card he needs to carry with his license. This extension is good indefinitely or until he returns to California. Once he returns, he must renew his license as the extension is then only good for 30 days. How they will know when he returns?? who knows!
