I've been told (and thought I read somewhere) that calling cards are good to send.  However, it phone calls are not permitted in boot camp, then why send one?  Is it good or not?  If so, then when would they use it?

Definitely send a PRE ACTIVATED calling card.  They do earn phone calls home and without a calling card, no phone call.  They can purchase one at the NEX there BUT if they only earn 1 phone call, and they have to use it to activate the card, problem.

They usually get a call home at about the mid-way point, then definitely when they complete battle stations.

Thank you for clearing that up.  that does make sense.
Anyone know if we can send money? My husband lost his wallet at the airport on his way there :( totally bites... I plan on sending a calling card but I'm also worried about him needing to buy stamps. That's another thing, can we send stamps?

I am hoping you can send stamps. I read where they could take them and I did not know that before he left. I am sending a letter today with stamps in it. I hope he can at least write home!

I sent a lot of stamps to my daughter when she went through boot camp 2-1/2 years ago.  In fact, she told me she was the "stamp source" for a lot of recruits who ran out of stamps!
Thank you so much!!!!
I just got a letter from him and he is loving it actually. Said the first couple days were rough but its going good now. I sent him a letter with a few pics I printed and added some stamps so they will have some. He will share too! :) Thanks for the information!!
I was also wondering about stamps...thanks for the info....you guys and this site are a lifesaver!!
