Hi Kari,
My son failed his run as well. He was placed in FIT and is extremely upset. I didn't mind all these facts, eventually he will pass. What I was upset about was the fact that he was supposed to graduate today. I actually flew up to IL to be with him He was on the graduation list and we found out about 40 minutes after the ceremony ended, that he was not in it. I wish there was a fail safe system or some way to communicate with the recruits other than letter. We never received word from him. Did your son make it through?

My son went through this last year. Things do happen with the recruits. Just stand behind him, he will have more training opportunities ahead. He will become stronger, just stand behind your sailor.

My sailor has graduated and moved onto his new duties. He will make it through and stay positive, he needs your support.

You gave him the values as a parent, the Navy gives all recruits the opportunity to achieve and move forward.

Keep me posted on your sons progress. We all need to stand by each other and you are not alone.

Yes, I had the exact same thing happened to my son. I was told not to come out! So wait to hear from him or the recruiter or try to contact his superior. He was transferred out of his regular class rotation which meant he never was able to attend his bootcamp graduation. He started running with an officer and he passed later that week. He did manage to get back with his buddies before they shipped out. He was very upset by all of this. My heart ached for him. I didn't get to see him until his 1st leave in A school. I did have the opportunity to see his A school graduation. I hear its not as grand but it was great to go and show how proud I was of him. All I could do was send a hug through the phone and tell him I believed in him. Just hang in there! Jeremiah's Mom

My son's PIR was on June 13, 2008. He, too had trouble passing the run. He called us very upset to tell us that he didn't pass and was to take in the next week, on Wed. before battlestations on the next day. If he didn't pass then, he was going to be pushed back until he could pass and not PIR with his division. We had no word from him the next week until on Friday afternoon when I got the call where he said, "Mom, I'm now a sailor!" He told us that his division was on the sideline cheering him and the few others who were retaking the run. He said they will do all they can to help you pass, sometimes even run along with you to help set a pace. We were in the stands with such pride when he had his PIR. Yours will do it, keep the faith!

My son is having the same trouble. He called on 11/11 and said that he is having difficulty with the run. He needs to make up 45 seconds in a week and a half. I am so scared he will not make it. I have been crying and praying since that phone call. He it graduate on 12/04/09 and we are leaving on 12/2 for the 12 hour drive up there. My biggest fear is that we will be on our way there or get there and find out that he is not graduating. If he graduates on a different date I am afraid that I will not be able to make it there. If anyone out there can help me with this or give me suggestions. I would appreciate it. I told him to run as fast as he can and to pump his arms quicker when he tires. That is what I did when I ran track. I was wondering if anyone helps those that are slower and how many times can he try before graduation date. Thanks everyone. Support needed here.

He will get several tries before graduation. I am sure he will make it!! But, if by chance, he does not make it, he will be put in the FIT program, until he does. My son just went through the FIT Program, three weeks, and those three weeks were tough..on all of us!! The RDCs there are WONDERFUL!! They encourage them and support them and they are better for it. You can join us in that group whenever you like and I promise you will receive more support than you can imagine. Keep sending letters, every day, encouraging him. He needs that extra encouragement so much now! Hang in there Mom! I am here if you have more questions or need to talk, cry, vent...whatever.

oncnurse - You have almost the exact same story as so many of us. My son and our family went thru EXACTLY what you are going thru in September. Here is the link to the FIT page - http://www.navyformoms.com/group/fitprogram. Please come over and read up on everyone's experiences. You will find that you are not alone and discover so many happy endings...and more support than you can imagine.
