Navy For Moms

Hi everyone--so my son had his final run today and battlestations tonight with his division. He called about 8pm and told me he's been moved to ship 06 after injuring his leg during his run. He'll have to be on crutches for the next week and then start working to build his strength back up. I don't know if he'll stay there and get put with another division or if he'll go through the FIT unit? He said it could take as long as 3 weeks or more. I was so excited about this weekend and seeing him, just as I'm sure he was. Now I'm back to the not knowing again--which is stressful in itself. The good thing was that he sounded good. Just thought I would share hoping to hear from some other moms in a similiar situation or anyone that can hand out some advice on what to do or not to do next. Thanks! Sad but still proud mom--Janet

Janet, When Devyn talked to his dad he said that he actually liked it in ship 06 better, so I hope you find some comfort in that. And I am in the same boat with ya and I have big ears and a big shoulder to cry on.

Thanks Lana--I see you're not able to sleep either. I haven't had a good nights sleep in I don't know how long. I know I need to take care of myself but a mother never stops worrying. I wrote a 4 page letter that I'm sending off tomorrow so that helped a bit. I hope he likes it there too--but not so much he doesn't want to leave. ;-) I feel like a little kid left out of the baseball game with everyone in our PIR group leaving for graduation. I guess we'll have our time--we just don't know when yet. Has he been able to write to you more often than before? I know Cody is finished with everything else as far as academics, drill, etc--so maybe they'll give him more free time to write? I asked him if he needed me to send him another calling card--and he said "no mom, I'll buy one here" he sounded so grown up and independant. I had my crying spell earlier, I'm sure it won't be the last.

Hi Janet,

I have nightmares that something like this will happen to my daughter. All through high school she would get hurt playing basketball or softball. Seems we were always going to the emergency room. I am praying this won't happen during boot camp through. Tentatively her graduation is Dec. 24 and she may get to come home for a few days afterward. She will be going to A school in Penscola which starts on Jan. 5 from what I understand. Hope your son heals fast and gets on his way once again.

Thanks Lynda--Cody actually injured his leg the first week he was there--however, he was on light duty and never sent to another place. This time he was because it was near the end for his division. I hope he gets back his strength and motivation, and since his division is gone hopefully he'll find others there to encourage and support him. I've said he mujst get his clumsiness from me--I injure myself on a weekly basis.:-)

Janet, give us an update on your son please. Did his leg heal?

Hi Lynn--thanks for asking! He ended up tearing a muscle in his leg that controls the movement in his foot. He was on crutches for 2 weeks. They did physical therapy on him everyday as well as some other treatments. He's now off of crutches--he has to be able to walk 1.5 miles without pain before being able to re-attempt his run. I'm hoping to hear more news tomorrow since he gets a routine call on Tuesdays. He's in charge of watch duty and the mail there in ship 06 and he seems to like having the jobs, he said it gives him something to do. He's made friends there, some that have been there alot longer than him so I'm sure that's helping him through as well. He's hoping to move from boot camp into A school sometime in January. :-)
