If it's not too late, go back to the "front page" and read my post "How to get the best program".

In any case, the short answer to your question is "Yes, the Navy will deliver what is promised when the Sailor enlists." The key is to make sure you get a promise that you really want (and that you understand).

If its in writing they will get the schooling for the rate.....but they have to keep up their end of the bargain.....keep up the grades...stay in good physical condition....etc....I have heard about lots of kids who signed on for more than they were ready for and couldn't handle the school.....make sure that he can and wants to do the job he signs up for....also if you don't finish your school then the bonus you were offered for the rate goes down with it!

Jodi, my son got what he wanted, and what they wanted him for. He is a Nuke. If its not in their contract, they wont get it. My sons first recruiter told him they would pay off his student loan. When all was said and done, it wasnt in his contract, and he had to pay it. He closed with a different recruiter who told him they only alot so much for that and there was nothing he could do now.
Just make sure he is signing up for what he wants or waits it out tills its available.
Congrats on your new sailor and welcome!

I'm replying because my son who just joined is a Nuke. Our son just joined last week and we are
still not adjusted to it as yet. This is a wonderful site for moms.

My son did get what he was supposed to, but we found that money they promised was not prompt in coming. Actually my son is married and moving expenses have not been prompt in coming.

My son is in advanced electronics and it is what he wanted. He has been doing it for three years now. It is a costly schooling program. They often make this decision at a very young age. If in the future they decide they want to change career paths it is difficult as the Navy frowns on losing the investment they have put into a sailor.

YES....My son was suppose to go into cooking and on to be a chef, he graduated from a tech school in culinary arts and he is now woring on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier!!!!!!! This is a far cry from cooking and they tell him if you switches now he has to re-enlist for anothe 4 years although his 5 years aren' up yet......he hates it....But I guess it all depends on your recurter.......my sons lied through his teeth just to get him in there, cause he was going to do another branch if he didn't get cooking..... He has a brother in the Air Force....and he is doing what he went in for but like I said it probably all depends on the recruiter.......

Hi Molly do you mind me asking what score your son got on the ASVABS?

Reply to This

Ok...your son needs to go talk to his CCC! They will look at his ASVAB line scores and see what he is qualed for. If he is NOT rated, they can assist him in getting an "A" school. The cooks in the Navy are CS's they are NOT chef's!! Sounds like your son is an airman.

Who ever is telling him he has to reenlist for 4 years is giving him a line of BS!! People can reenlist for 2 + years.

Did your son go to an "A" school? If not was it in his contract to go to "A" school?

The key, I think, is to be unwaivering. You son should decide what he wants to be, follow the prescribed schedule and stick to his guns. Trying to change his mind or delaying his entry may cause him to lose the job he wants and could result in his going in as "undesignated". This may be a good thing for some, but not if his mind is made up. I don't know what his ASVAB scores are, but a great ASVAB score is key to having a plethora of choices in jobs. There are ASVAB study guides which my sons used and improved their scores immensely. Hope this helps. Good luck to you and your son. Stay educated and get info from more sources than just the recruiter. This will enable you to ask the right questions.

My son thought the sun rose and shone upon his recruiter. His father and I couldnt get him to consider anything we would say, warn him about. It's a generational thing, I guess. He actual;ly signed a "suedo" contract. His father and I flipped out. He was informed that after passing a PT test that his actual SEAL contract would be delivered. Aaron passed got his SEAL contract. The way he wanted it. If there are any questions our doubts about the contract, ask, and demand that they be changed before signing anything. Good luck. Thank your son for his service and thank you mom for your sacrifice.

My son got to bootcamp on Monday,Nov.10th. He has passed his PT tests and has his SEAL contract also. I was wondering when your son enlisted? The recruiter told me my son will stay at GL for pre-BUD/S. I am interested in talking to other mothers who also have sons enlisted for SEALS. His recruiter has also told me that the SEALS have been regrouped and are training by themselves and they are already getting a taste of pre -BUD/S. I have had only the one phone call from him Monday at 11:41pm to tell me that he arrived safely and it is killing me not to know how he is. Any info you have would be appreciated.
