Navy For Moms

Hi everyone. We went to San Diego and watched our son get sworn in. Day after, 11/20, he flew to GL for bootcamp. It was kool, I bought a new high def camcorder and was able to record the swearing in. It was sad to see that out of 25 men who were swearing in, only 2 families were there. We are waiting to see if his bootcamp is 5 or 8 weeks.

We did not go to the swearing in because we did not know there would be one. I only found out after the fact and wish we would have been there. The recruiter just told us to drop him off, they would drive him to Baltimore, and then he would fly to GL. Nothing was mentioned about a ceremony. So, many of the parents might not have known about that part...I know we did not. Glad you were able to see the swearing in, make sure that camcorder is charged for PIR! It is amazing! You will love it.

I think many more would have been there if the recruiter informed them. We were lucky to be there, you could feel all the young men/women's emotions on high as they took their oath...gave me goose bumps. Best of all I have it on tape. Yes, PIR will be taped in full HD!!! Thanks and good luck with your sailor. We have to go shopping for some warm clothes for GL winter. We CA folks only own sweatshirts!

When do they do the swearing in?
My son is signing up now and will be going to MEPS Monday. He won't be heading to BC til after summer because he has to finish school first. Do they swear in just before they leave, or when they sign up?
When my first son did it, I was a couple states away & there was no way I could have been there for it.
I don't want to miss Nolan's.

There are 2, one when they go to MEPS to take the test, and a formal one right before they leave for BC. We were told by recruiter that the latter is the one that really counts. If you can, try to go. The captain makes a speech right before they are sworn in and it just made my wife cry, it's a very good experience. Good luck with both.
