Son very ill Back in hospital diagnosis Guillain-Barre syndrome

I recieved a call from North Chicago Va last night My son was just released last sunday after recovering from pneumonia. He was sent back to the RTC to the holding division to wait to be put back with his division. he started having symptoms of weakness in his arms hands and legs about 3 days ago.He said he couldnt even salute his officers. He got in trouble because they thought he was just faking. They sent him to the hospital yesterday and the e.r dr. also thought he was faking so they sent him for psycic evaluation he was found to be completely sane and not crazy...Thank god they got another Dr. the same one he had when he was sick last week to do some test. Then they put him in the critical care unit...This disorder is very rare and is not well known from what I have found on it. It is when his immune system starts attacking his nervous system. He can't lift his legs at this point and it could cause him to be placed on a ventilator if it attacks his lungs. I talked to the dr. last night and he has told me he is stable for now.I will be contacted if it progresses any I will then fly to chicago. MY PROBLEM is that I dont know how I will get from the airport to the hospital once I get there Renting a car wouldn't be an option because of the cost and then I wouldnt know which way to go anyway... Is there any resources that I can use through the navy to get help with this?Once I get there I will stay at the hospital and sleep in a chair if I have to I just dont want my son alone in a strange place with all of this happening to him. He is scared to death. They have explained to him that it could make him stop breathing so he is just terrified of that happening. He wants to know why me. This only affects 1or 2 in 100,000.If anyone can give me some help or tell me who to contact please let me know...VERY SCARED MOM!!!!!!!

I just stumbled on this accidentally while wandering around sites- I don't have time to go back and follow what's going on. All I know is my heart fell to the floor! Has anyone suggested the Red Cross of the USO in the area?

You realize this thread is a year old, please check the date on the original post and see if the poster has updated about the situation. It seems she has and her son is out of the navy and doing well.
