Navy For Moms

I cant use his name....but I want to thank him....March 26th at about 6:30 pm we had a tragedy in my family.....my youngest sister age 32 and her two girls....one age 10 yrs and another age 11mnths....were hit head on on their way to the grocery store and killed....the other driver was killed as well....the only bright spot to this was that my sisters 3 year old girl in the van with them survived with not much more than a scratch and car seat bruises.....I called my son....and he talked to his DC1 and his DC1 called me and got all the info...and had his emergency leave processed and was calling me again to tell my son to come pick it up.....he was on the first flight out on Saturday morning....and got here in time to be a pawbearer in the funeral.....I know they don't have grant emergency leave when its not imediate family......and the fact they took such care and consideration with us and my son....means the world to me and my family and further proves to me that the Navy career choice was the right one for my son.....I know the chances of him reading this are small.....I wanted to thank him with more than the Thank you card I sent via my son......so Thank You so very much....from the bottom of my heart.........

Robin,
My deepest sympathy for your losses....what a tragedy. No one can know exactly how you feel, but our family suffered a similar incident in February, only it was a nephew, fiance and unborn child. Different circumstances, but a horrible loss. Then, 10 days after that, the nephew's father, my brother-in-law, passed away from complications of circulatory disease....quite a blow for the family. We are healing, but it's going to take time. You and your family will be in my prayers daily, as you try to come to terms with harsh reality.....I, too, am thankful for the caring attitude of the ombudsman's office that helped us break the news to our sailor. He did not come home, but I think that if we had requested it, efforts would have been made on our behalf. He has told us that many staff (officers and enlisted) have offered condolences to him (and us), and went out of their way to be available for support. That means the world to this Mom, for sure. When all around us was turmoil, the easiest thing we had to do was get the word to our sailor...

My heart goes out to you and your family! I can't imagine in a millions years how hard it must be to deal with this loss. What a caring DC1! I'm so glad that he was able to come home to pay his respects.
