Navy For Moms

I was surprised that there wasn't any verification that my son was really in the Navy. Why isn't that done. I have had it done at other sites. Just curious.

Gah. You know I totally misread this Q- and ended up deleting stuff on this thread. Sorry. (Going way too fast). I will have a response for you in the next few days. :) Just running around too much today. CC

Debby, most of the discussion is gone, there were three pages of it. This site does not take any inforamtion from you except what you give to sign up for the site. There is no verification if you have a sailor or not. And it is a public site that anyone can join. You do not have to be a member to read the posts.
There are other sites out on the web that require your sailors name, rank, rate your address and what not to join, and they verify that you are a navy parent. The past chatter in this thread was on how safe that information is being turned over to a stranger. It was also mentioned that many members here have used those other sites for years and have had no problems.

I can't even imagine how worried you are, but want you to know that I will pray for your sailor and hope you hear from him or see bank stuff movement.

Debby, I had a son who was in Iraq for 15 months. There were times that I could IM him on Myspace and use a webcam to see him even though that did slow down the transmission. But during that time, I also wouldn't hear from him for a few weeks at a time. They have to change their passwords every few days, and even if he had the time, there were times that all communications were blocked for security testing. My son has to go back in January. He has to travel, but usually has a Marine escort. I will prayer with you. My son's checking wasn't very active because there were no stores.

This is a good point. Though I appreciate getting information from those who are or were enlisted in the Navy at one time. As long as they aren't criminals. This is why though we have to be a little careful about information. That is what private mssg. is for.

Well, as with most online groups or websites, anyone can say that they are anyone or anything. But the majority of the members here who say they are Navy or past Navy talk the talk and have great input.

Well here's my two cents, we on this site should all be aware as we warn our children," no personal info that could to harm you is to be put on any web site".I always felt bad when I joined this group because I couldn't share anything , no photos , no info about me or my son and when you see all the beautiful photos and videos it's hard not to want to share those same things. Then I think of my son and his advise to me , "mom if you need to share your feelings or need support go for it", just keep me safe and no info about me. and so other than him being deployed or being scarred for him , that's it. We do not know who is checking out this site but we are all smart moms and if you think things you say could endnger your child , Don't post it because your child is not alone , he or she is with others and we as navy mother need to protect all ! Look how pissed we get at the media when they leak secret missions and put our troops in danger, keep it general ladies , they don't need their mothers adding to the danger some of them are in. Share your feelings , share your good and bad days that's why we are here, to help one another get through this trying time. Hugs toall , Maria

Very good question especially since people were saying that RDC and wives of RDC were on here just to chk out what we are saying. SOrta takes away the concept of this site. I love this site, it got me thru some hard times, you Moms are the BEST!! Now that my child is out I can help others too.
