My sons graduation is January 9th. What things can we bring from home for him? Can he have his cell phone, Ipod? Can he have his Christmas gifts?

haha - What do they want??
A long shower - ALONE (unless, I guess he is married) -
a MOMMA's hug!!!! (oh, or does Momma want that more?)
a long nap!!!!
q-tips!!
civilian clothes (but he can only wear them in the hotel room) -
Yes, he can use his cell phone - while with you - he cannot take it back to the base with him
(he will be able to have it at A school - you may have to mail it to him)
Christmas gifts??? I guess it depends on what they are - but I bet they have to wait until he gets to A school

You can bring his Christmas gifts with you. We brought a small fiber optic tree with us and he had his Christmas. His gifts, cell phone, and other personal items will have to be mailed back to him.

What Brenda said is very true. He may just want to hang out at the Hotel.

Good Luck,

Tracy

Brenda- that is so funny you said Qtips because I know my husband will want them!!

My husband is staying at GL for his A school and so he said that after his liberty ends on Sunday night, he is allowed his civilian things. Problem is, I'm leaving Saturday NIGHT so I'm going to just have to mail his things to him. I'm bringing him his Christmas present but since I got him an Ipod, I'll have to send it back to him as well. I'm also bringing him civilian clothes in case he just wants to lounge around the hotel room. I'll go out and get him food; I just want him to be able to relax :]

Christi, what division is your son in? Mine is in 059. There is a site for PIR 09 Jan 09. DIV 056-063, 808&908. We look forward to seeing you in there over the next few days.

Kim,
My son is not in eithter Div., but he is there none the less. I am so glad to hear how warmly they are dressed. When my son wrote us first, he had told us that it was manditory that they drink 8-12 canteens of water daily, because they sweat without realizing it in their winter jackets. He vows after BC to never drink water again. LOL! Thank you and congrats on your son's PIR GO NAVY!!!

Congrats on your upcoming PIR!!

You can wear anything you want to PIR - you will see families in jeans and t-shirts, others in suits and ties. The weather will probably be cold for most families and there is a good walk involved from the parking lot to the hall so practical shoes should be your top concern.

Cynthia,
People wear everything from jeans to dresses.Navy colors would be cool but to be honest I didn't see any at our sons PIR last week. Dress warm because it will be beastly cold at 6;45 in the morning on greaduation day. Make sure you get there early to get your choice of seat. They have signs up showing the division numbers so you'll kow where to set.

Hi Christi, my son will be graduating on Jan 9th too. We were able to do the adopt a sailor program for Christmas. It was wonderful. We did take his Christmas presents with us, and brought all but one back. The one he kept was a watch. And since then he wrote us saying how much he loves it and uses it. We actually adopted another sailor too. And when we picked them up they asked if we could go to the store. They really wanted Charmin T.P., Q-tips, wipes, Red Bull and Oreos. We also brought extra clothes so they could lounge around in the hotel. We brought cell phones and a lap top to keep up on Face Book. It was the best Christmas ever. Hope this helps. Maybe we will see you there.

They want anything homemade to eat that you want to bring. As far as their electronics they can use them while they are with you but they don't get to take them back on the base unless they want to risk going to Captain's Mass. As far as his Christmas gifts he can open them but unless it's something small they don't have aplace to put it until they move to other quarters. At the PIR, get there early so that you can get a seat and a Division T-shirt. Make sure you pick up a T-shirt for your son otherwise they will not get one. The cost is $15 and they come in small thru Xlarge sizes. If you have a video camera bring it. It is an impressive PIR. Division photos are $8.00 at the NEX right after PIR. Have a safe trip.
