What jobs are there for recruits that are color deficient

My son is partially color blind. He passed one test at meps but failed it at RTC. He had a contract going to RTC for Nuke but now that is out, in fact what I can gather almost everything is out. Does anyone have an advice or help??

My son is color blind also and I never realized that until MEPS. He wanted to get into the computer field but was not able due to being color blind.

My son is also color blind and we have known it since he was 5 years old. A very smart kindergarten teacher picked up on it and we had him tested at that time and it was confirmed. You can be in the Navy and be color blind however the jobs open to you are very, very few. Some I can understand and some I can not. My son is a culinary spcialist and seems to like it O.K.

My son also had the same issue-he wanted Nukes as well. He chose Store Keeper and has been in 9 years now moving up in rank really quickly. He has also decided to make this his career.

Robin ...

That's what my son chose Store Keeper because he is color blind. It's heredity
in my husband and my family . My dad , 3 nephews , and several others.
I know 2 person who's a store keeper , and they said , they're busy , been in
navy 10 years and 4 years the first time , endlist again .

Hi Pam,
I knew my son Daniel was colored blind for a long time. And when he went to Des Moines for all his test they told him he was severly colored blind. He knew he wanted to do something with machines and motors, and luckly it all worked out for him he is going to be a machinist mate.He graduates from high school in May and leaves for boot camp in August. Hope this can be of some help.

Pam,
My son was originally going in for nuke but we found out he was partially colorblind at meps. He took another test and qualified for CTI (cryptology tech interpreter). Maybe your son can check out this job?

Pam,You and your son will be OK, ......My son enlistrd in his senior year. (FYI,when he enlisted, he came home and told me and his dad that,......"I have enlisted in thr Navy ,,,,,,,,,,,,and there is nothing you can do about it."
We did not discover that he was "colorblind" ,until he took the "test". He wanted to work with the "air" part of the Navy, but having a "colorblind" issue , made that impossible.
My son was able to train in AUX systems, for, Ticondorga (Cruisers) & Aeleigh Burke (Destroyers).
He has been in the Navy since 13AUG97.
There are a lot of slots for your son. If this is what he wants, it is there for him.
Trust me if his ASFAB score gave him a high enough score, he will be able to find an appropriate spot for training.

Have him ask about Engineman. Was diagnosed color blind at MEPS when he delayed enlist. Was going to go special operation. But went in to Engineman. The school is at Great Lakes also. Had no major problems. Now in San Diego.

Hi Pam, My stepson is currently in boot. He found out at RTC that he was color blind. That cut out his Aviation job that he had signed up for. However, they offered him Steelworker, which is a Seabee rate. In case you don't know, the Seabees are the construction arm of the Navy. I am a former Seabee myself, so I was elated that he was going into this field. He's still getting used to the idea however. His PIR is on 20MAR and I hope to be able to encourage him and support him in this change in his Navy career.
