Hi, Carrie. Welcome to the group. My granddaughter is heading down to Pensacola tomorrow. Then she too will be on hold there. Does Michael have any idea on the length of time for his hold?

Never been to Japan, my sailor is generally there over winter months when they aren't deployed so it is hard to get away with the youngest still in school. Plus the $$ of tickets is mighty high!! And with a 6'3" hubby I think he would have mighty sore legs after that long flight!!! My son said his were!! We were lucky enough to see our son last year when the Kitty Hawk pulled into Pearl Harbor!! We got to spend an entire week with him! Now we wait till next summer when he comes back state side! I can hardly wait... miss him something fierce! Well it is way late for me... I'm headed to bed!

Dori, thanks for the info, Im sure as we go along i will figure out all this navy lingo, Im hoping the hold for A school isn't too long, idle hands can get in trouble, hopefully the navy will keep him busy while he is waiting.

Terbeasch, Isn't that "I'm a Sailor call" great. I know when I talked to Victoria, she was so tired but also so happy with herself.

Victoria enlisted as AT, then when she transferred to GL A school, she said it was ATO. Then she said they switched it to ATI. So I am not sure exactly what rate she is at this point. As I understand it, the AT rate is not a guaranteed rate and the final decision is made after the basic electronics course.

Victoria is leaving GL for Pensacola on Wednesday. Then she will be on hold again. There appears to be quite a hold for the AT school.

Ksaul09, It's great to have someone who can answer questions. I don't have any right now but I am sure that as Victoria moves into A school, I will have some.

Sherrill, my brother was stationed in Japan when his two older children were starting school. His youngest son was born there. Matt completely fell in love with Japan, returned as an exchange student, married a Japanese girl and they have lived both in Japan and the US. He is currently an airline pilot and dreams one day of flying for JAL. He is bi-lingual as is his daughter. I understand it is a very interesting country.

Jeremy loves Japan so much, he hopes to get to stay after his first 3 years are up. But he's also hoping to do STA21, so he'll have to come back stateside for awhile if he gets accepted into that.
Donna, have you been over to Japan. My husband and I are thinking of a trip over sometime during his three year deployment. He's only been there since April, so we have lots of time still.

Been ages since I was on the AT page, spend most of my time on the Nebraska moms page. But my son is also on the Washington! He just completed yr 2 with the VAQ-136 , one more yr to go in Japan, then I'll get to see my boy!! He loves it over there!! His first "job" as a newbie was to run the attack snack shack, he stocked and ran where the guys buy their goodies!! He liked that too, When they hit the base in Atsugi he still had to do his time running the shack there, he has his moms business sense and actually had sales pick up with some of the things he did! And to the new moms and girl friends on here, you are so lucky to have this site!! Wish it had been around 3 yrs ago for me :-)

Most of the first time crusers got assigned to the galley, Jeremy got lucky! He is enjoying being part of the Hazmat team. After his 12 hour shift, he goes to the line shack on the cruiser, to get qualified for AT. They don't get a whole lot of sleep!
