Welcome NavyJez. I live in upstate NY near the Woodstock site. I am farily new to this site as well. My son is in for 3 years+ now and is on the Bush in Norfolk. I know how you are feeling now, but in time you will hear from him, they are encouraged to write letters home. I am not sure when fleet week is, I would love to know some info as well. This is a great site for learn things and to get advice

I am new Here ! A Farmingdale Mom living in N. Massapequa... My son is at Boot Camp and is missed terribly :*( .... His best friend just left this morning for Great Lakes ..Would like to know some info on Fleet Week ! Thanks for having me

Cathy, thanks for the welcome. Utica, NY (Oneida County) is west of Herkimer County. The Adirondack Mountains are just a short drive from here, which is wonderful in the summer time. We go to the Adirondacks quite often then. In the winter, people snow mobile and ski a lot. I've done neither...I'm not a fan of the winter, too cold. We're originally Jersey girls.

Oh MJ what a trip you are in for! We just got back from our son's PIR on August 7th. It is just amazing. Best of luck to you and welcome.

Welcome MJ to the NY group. Maybe you'll find a few people if you post a general blog. That is the best way to find people in your division and then you can all make up your own division group. Try that to find people in your son/daughter's division and visit us here in the NY group anytime at all. My name is Cathy, my son had PIR on 3/13 and then went to A school in Great Lakes to become a corpsman and is now in C school in Pensacola. We would love to have you join our group. Tell us more about your sailor-to-be. And, where is Herkimer County? I live in Orange county, just about 75 miles north of the city.

No, it wasn't a fancy graduation like corpsman school or boot camp. He said it was a low key ceremony in an auditorium, some speechs, some awards, and 30 minutes later it was over. We visited him just 2 weeks ago when we drove down to see him. He starts air crew school tomorrow. Hope your son is doing well.

Hi navy moms. My son, (Ryan) graduated from AVT school in Pensacola yesterday. (aerospace medical technician). He was honor graduate. :~)
Now he is starting aircrew school down there for the next month. Things are really moving along!

Hi guys,
I actually moved in the opposite direction. I was born in Philadelphia. My Dad got transferred to Schenectady. I met and married a guy from Hyde Park, NY, and now we live near Poughkeepsie. I work in NYC area tho. It's like a circle. My son is still out in the GL for A school. So far so good... we think.

BTTW the Buddy Guy/BB King show was fabulous.
