Hello to all! I've just joined your group and wanted to introduce myself. My son is living in Marysville, near Everette, and ferrying over to Bremerton each day. He is EOD. (I think those are the right initials :)
I just got back from visiting and it is a beautifl part of the country, but the weather is not for me! I live in WV and basically traveled across the country because I hadn't seen him in 8 months and couldn't wait any longer. I was surprised at emotional I was the entire trip and how much he had matured!
Would love to chat.

Elizabeth.. my son told me he takes the ferry back to Everett and it doesn't take long at all.. maybe your husband could do that till they come back to Everett for good

Hi Carmina, I haven't been on in a while, I thought I would check in and see what is going on. I love having Casey back home I realize how lucky I am to have him so close, I know there will come a time when I wont be so lucky and he will be somewhere else, but in the mean time I love having him around.
I am with Joey on the weather it has been horrible lately so much rain and really cold not the norm for around here but I would much rather have the rain then the snow we had last year, tell him to hang in there it has to quit raining soon. I HOPE!!!
Elizabeth, I would look for a place in the Everett area as this is the homeport for the Lincoln, if all goes well the Lincoln should be back to Everett I think by January??

Thank you Carmina, Cathy and Lorrie,
I still have a couple of questions. Would it be wise to live in Bremerton or in Everett? ( or somewhere in between?) Also is the Lincoln in Everett sometimes and sometimes in Bremerton? Where is it most of the time? thanks again.

Hi Lorrie,
I haven't seen you online in a while, how have you been? I was telling my son yesterday that life has changed so much in twelve months. Last year at this time our boys were in bootcamp and getting ready for Battlestations and graduation. So, how does it feel being a "mother-in-law"? You are so lucky to have your son so close to you. Joey is hating the weather up there lately, he is not used to the cold and the rain.
You are a great resource for a lot of moms and young wives getting ready to move up there. Joey is living with a friend in Bremerton, but I think their lease is up soon and they will be moving to the Everett side once the ship goes back to its homeport.

Hi Elizabeth, I wanted to give you some info on the area as we have lived here over twenty years and my son is also assigned to the Lincoln. My son and his wife live in Smokey Point in Navy housing, I would not recommend living here nor would my son it has to be the worst Navy housing very poor management. ( they are looking for a new place as we speak so when there lease is up they can get out) I know they also just built new housing in Lake Stevens which is about 10 miles east of the base ( I have not heard anything about this place yet requirements etc ) The guys that live up this way go to the Navy base in Everett and then they are shuttled to the Lincoln in Bremerton. The busses leave between 4:30 and 5:00 am every morning and I know my son gets back around 5:30 at night. (Does make for a long day but he tells me they all just sleep both ways)
As for housing there are plenty of apartment complex's around the area, the only place that you do not want to live is a place called "Casino Road" not a good area at all.. this is located in South Everett, There are also a few places down by the base but once you start looking you will figure this part out.
Rent for apartments range anywhere from $800-to about $1100 for a decent place and I know the housing allowance is about $1100.

Hope this helps if you think of something else you would like to know let me know. ( This goes for any other moms who have Kids on the LIncoln I would be happy to answer questions about the area. ) Still learning about the Navy though not sure I have many answers in that area just lots of questions. LOL

Talk to you soon

Hi Dawn, its nice to meet you. My son just got there a few weeks ago. He is from NC, where his sister and I live. Washington is a long way from NC. I am starting to save up some money to travel to see him next summer. He is 20 years old, and an AO. So I am just starting on this journey of being a Navy mom. Funny enough, several years ago we were all 3 getting antsy to move somewhere else, and we were looking in the Seattle area, around Bellingham, so its pretty wild that my son is living close to there now.

Hi everyone. I've been away from this site for a couple months. My daughter reported to the Lincoln end of July, and is keeping busy with her quals(she's a nuke). She's hoping to get leave approval for a few days right after Christmas for her sister's wedding. She has no seniority, but we are praying, as she's a bridesmaid. And, of course, we'd love to see her!
And she plans on getting married next June, to another nuke stationed at Bangor. They'll be coming home for the wedding, which is a good thing, as her family is very large, and his is small. He's from WA.
She's been in for over 2 years now, and I still can so easily cry when I think about her. She wants us to move out there, and since we are in MI, and dealing with 3 years of underemployment, we may do that eventually. Just trying to hang in long enough to get my son through school-he's a high school junior now. May not make it. He might have to do his senior year elsewhere. But I hate to leave my other daughter here, too. Grr.

Hi Elizabeth, welcome! Carmina and her son have been God sends to my son (and me too for moral support) who just arrived in Washington earlier this month. I don't know much at all, but want to welcome you just the same!

Hi Elizabeth,
Welcome to the group. The commute can be two hours if he is commuting via car. The highway goes around Puget Sound, so it's a long drive. When does your husband report to the Lincoln? I'm sure that by the time you move up to Washington, the ship should be back to it's homeport in Everett, which there wouldn't be a commute.
