Same here! She messaged me before that one too! I feel so bad for her! there is no reason he should be going back out! Its ridiculous! I agree our defense spending needs to cut back but in other ways. They waste millions!!! Or the hundreds of thousands of dollars in scrap metal they throw away. Why not reuse that or sell it to a scrap yard? I always tell Michael if I was in charge of the Navy for a few years we would be saving money every year. Then we can use that to help our sailors out! Ugh... my soapbox!!! lol

Meagan, I'm just glad they got more notice ths time. He had gotten a three day notice to go with the Truman but they canceled that deployment. We all need to be writing, calling and emailing our US Representatives and tell them to stop Obama from destroying our military! especially the Navy, they are getting hit the hardest! Our country's safety is more important tan some of the other foolishness they spend money on! I'll step off my soapbox now. lol

The sailors will still get paid as of now. they will send them to other ships if needed, or they will work on getting the ship ready for the drydock for the future. They just dont have money for the overhaul. So they wont move over to the shipyards because they cant pay the company. There wont be a 20% pay cut as of now. the pay cut that is propsed is actually just not as big of a raise as it was supposed to be. In Jan 2014 all servicemembers are supposed to get a 1.7% raise, now they are proposing a .7% raise instead. Kim I was so sad for her when I heard. :( She messaged me about it the other day!

I agree with Kim, eventually each sailor will have duty and get paid his regular salary.  It just takes time.

Comment by nicks stepmonster on February 18, 2013 at 1:52pm

I wasn't aware of "no money"...my son was also on the Lincoln and now dry docked but he is receiving his pay.

Comment by Kim (Ethan's Mom) on February 18, 2013 at 10:27am

They will put them to work doing something. It's sad that our sailors are even in a situation that we have to ask this question. I have a Navy wife friend whose hubby is assigned to the Roosevelt. (they have also quit working on that carrier now) He went out with the Lincoln last deployment and is leaving soon with the Enterprise. They get their sea duty in and perform their jobs even if it's on a different ship.
