Alison❤️⚓️, when my son was in Great Lakes for A school, we would go and visit him.  We were 8 hrs away, so it was only a couple of times, HOWEVER, one weekend we went and he didn't have a liberty buddy, and they would not allow us as parents to be a liberty buddy.  He has to have a fellow sailor from his ship to leave with.  There wasn't one, as they all had duty, so we got to pal around on base with him, which was nice.  He was pretty upset, he wanted to get off of base, but it worked out.  Wanted to give you a heads up.  Now he is in Virginia and EVERYTHING is definitely different.

Runnermom, I am so very sorry for your loss. If your sailor needs any additional support, you can remind him that chaplain counseling services are free and 100% confidential. Chaplains are not mandatory reporters, so he can be completely honest and get the support he needs without any fear of command involvement. And we are always here if you need additional support as well <3.

Alison, the frustration with holding is very real and very common.  Tell him to hang in there, he's being paid and this can be seen as a test of patience preparing for the long days at sea he will have all too soon.  Hurry up and wait is an old Navy tradition!

You certainly can visit on weekends, and he can have you be his liberty buddy, or bring his friends along.  Just remember he has a curfew, and try not to visit when he has weekend duty.  He can tell you which weekends would be best with his schedule.

Good Morning.  Well it's was a busy April.  Last I posted was about my mother being ill and how that might affect my Sailor at GL.  Well long story short, he was able to get an emergency visit the 21st (we are lucky she lived in south subs of Chicago) and we had a very nice weekend.  He had a scheduled weekend this past weekend, which worked because my mother passed away the 26th.  He was able to be there for the services on Monday and his father took him to the airport Monday and he is now in San Diego for A school.  Glad April is over and ready for May.

Good morning Phoenixmom so excited for you enjoy your time with Bud!!!

Anti M I'm not sure yet either he mentioned it to my husband, no orders yet he is kinda bored right now the QM class did not start , so I guess he is in holding? He told us he cleans all day & he actually mentioned he is home sick .. I'm trying to send positive thoughts to him and pray this class starts real soon.. I'm a little worried. Do you know if parents are allowed to visit them on the weekends?  I think from coming off of boot camp and do my h going out n there to nothing right now is a big adjustment.. I really concerned..

Alison, I really don't know.  The riverine units are pretty secretive, so there is very little specific information online.  I know many rates can train with them, so perhaps, but only is that's the unit he is stationed with.  He doesn't have orders yet, does he?
