Tina Congratulations, and welcome San Diego, my Son is also stationed in San Diego. He is on deployment right now but that is where he will be. Do you know if its North Island or 32nd street? He will enjoy San Diego. Just would like to welcome you.

  Internet is not great on base anywhere, and in the rooms, it can be really bad.  They usually go in together and purchase cable for their individual room (Comcast or Cox?) which is the best but not perfect.  Not sure how a hotspot will do in those older buildings.  If phone reception isn't all that good, and it is not in some places, then a hotspot will not be any more effective.  If he isn't seeing 4G indoors, then he won't be seeing a workable hotspot.

Good morning friends! Happy Monday! What has your sailors done about internet access on base? My sailor is having a difficult time connecting to the internet provided there. He has been told that it's not that good anyway and we're considering a hot spot.

Thanks for the explanation, sounds Harsh, Yes, I am hoping he will hang on to it (Everything). By now he should know all the rules hasnt gotten into trouble yet. (Not that I know) ok wasnt sure if barracks were in both places 32nd st. and Coronado. I'm probably guessing the barracks unless he is ordered otherwise. I cant see him being housed on the ship but again who knows. Thank You.

There are quite a few bases in the area, including the hospital.  The carrier is at North Island, so if they house him in a barracks, it will be there, on Coronado Island (which isn't an island at all...). He isn't senior enough to get BAH for an apartment, although some do keep their barracks room but also rent a room in a house with other sailors.  

He could stay on the ship, but hopefully not.  It is not restful or private.

A seabag inspection is so unusual that almost no one knows it exists outside of boot camp.  It is essentially just what it sounds like, making sure the sailor has every single issued or required item.  Pretty much a punishment, also was standard at one time for separating sailors.  This is why you hang onto everything until it wears out.  Just in case.  I never heard of anyone else having one, except one guy who was sent to the brig; he had to show he had all his uniforms before his things were put in to storage while he was locked up.  As for me, my command ws exceptionally peeved I was not reenlisting, they thought if they made it difficult, I'd just stay in.

Thank You, just curious as to what happens next and where he will be staying. correct first sea duty. You know all the time I have been to San Diego never once had I been or seen any of the bases that they have now I am very curious.

Phoenixmom, they’ll be assigned a barracks, given a temporary space in the lodge, or they’ll stay on the ship from what I’ve seen, unless they are married and live ashore. It depends how long until they ship out again and if the ship needs any maintenance according to our friend, but this is his first sea tour, so I’m not sure on the accuracy of that statement. 

Most of our friends on sea duty live in the barracks between deployments.

He had two white towels, but I added two more color blue, I'm sure he will go thru as I just folded his belongings and will know if he can take or not. Anti M what do you mean by Seabag Inspection, what is that about. I did have a chance to speak with him last night and he mentioned he wasnt ordered to get any more Uniforms as of yet. I'm sure he will stay on top of that stuff (God Willing ). Anti M quesion for you so after deployment and being back at Duty station where will he stay? North Island not being really big, just curious what comes next. Thank You Ladies Alison thank You, it is so good to see all is well with you and to be able to chat with you.once again. As you my Dear have much Knowledge too. Thanks!
