In most cases, they get a week to ten days of leave before reporting.  The date they need to report by usually allows for this.  In a few rare cases, if they borrowed leave for the holidays and have a negative leave balance, they might go directly to their new duty station.

They can earn back leave days, up to five, by doing RAP between A school and their first command.  Recruiter Assistance Program, they go help the recruiter for a few hours each day.  Usually this is home visits for potential recruits, school visits, or helping out at the office.

Good Morning Ladies, Happy Thursday! wishing you all well,

I have a question If they received orders to go to another Duty station and needs to be there date given, would they be able to come home until then or do they leave A school straight to New Duty station? Just curious?

In general, there is next to nothing for C school graduations.  Mostly a few nice words during muster, and handing out the certificates.  The classes are small, and everyone mostly wants to go on liberty, ot to pack up because they may be leaving immediately afterward.

I am so thankful for all the information you ladies provide.  This is my first experience with the military.

Hi Ladies,

I've been offline for quite a while and just wanted to say hi. Hope everyone is doing well!!! I have a "C" School question...Is the FC C School graduation like the A School graduation or is a bigger more formal kind of ceremony???

Thanks in advance :-)

I've wintered over in Great Lakes, it is indeed dark, cold, and depressing.  It is a difficult place.  I wish I'd known about lightboxes, the lamps which simulate sunlight. Waiting to class up feels unproductive, and it is easy to fall into a type of hibernation in your room.

There can be a chronic lack of sleep at most stages of a naval career.  That's why shore duty after sea duty is so desirable, they get a chance to keep to a schedule.  On a ship, sleep is precious.  Eyemasks and sound cancelling headphones and a good foam pad for the rack, and blackout curtains, are necessities for so many!

I have come to learn in BC there was lack of sleep, but in A school It can be the same, with studies, duty, watch. I came to see the sleep patterns my son has to endure while he was home for the Holidays, it was worrisome but he said that is part of military and assured me he was fine. now Duty watch can come at any time, before school after school, or even at midnight so there is no telling. Now from hearing my Son the worst is having to deal with those who act childish and have no respect, or act plain idiotic. So there will be different challenges, but as long as you follow rules then the phases come fast to those. and that is wearing civilian clothing and being able to go out with others on the weekend. there is a curfew so all is good. wishing the best for all your sailors beginning A school.

Godisgoodallthetime I will pray for your Son, Ask him to give A school a chance he will come to like it. They have more leniency, My son was so excited to start A school. It was the cold he couldn't get use to especially coming from AZ.

Hello to all you beautiful ladies, I suspect that my sailor may be depressed also. He is not accustomed to dark winter days, weeks, months coming from a sunny locale. Please encourage your sailors to get out in the sun at every opportunity even if only for 10-15 minutes at a time. Winter depression is very real and can be debilitating. The sun's rays help a lot. Even on overcast days it is still brighter outside than inside so they should get outside even then. Even when they don't feel like it. Not that A school experience can't be discouraging as some of the programs can be extremely challenging but add winter depression into the mix and it's not a pretty picture.

Just a suggestion! God bless you all! And, your sailors! God loves them!
