Marianne ~ No he did not see the ship come in. He did not get over there until the day after. Do they get BAH if they don't stay on the ship?? I would think so! Wes is thinking about buying a car soon. He is spending too much on taxi's' He has been saving the money for the down payment. He is looking at a car that is for sale on the base. Hoping to find something inexpensive in good mechanical shape.

Patty, great pics! Don't tell Wes about the barge. I heard no barracks for anyone as they are redoing some of them as well. There are a lot of unhappy sailors right now believe me. Tim is moving into an apartment with one of his shipmates He was in the barracks before they deployed and he was told that he had to move out of there as well as off the ship. Don't know when all this is supposed to happen though. I will keep you posted if I hear anything else. I just happened to be there in the work center when Tim's DIVO(division officer) made the announcement! Did Wes see the ship come in?

Hey Marianne ~ Think I won't tell Wes about the barge. He is not crazy about the idea and is hoping to stay in a barracks. Prolly won't because he is new but I am gonna hope for the best for him. :o)

I have already been on the Lexington ship museum that they have here in Corpus Christi, Texas. I know a little what it is like to climb up and down those ladders. LOL In fact, I will add a couple pic's I took of the Lexington. Wes & I took my dad to tour it while he was home!

I have lots more pic's of this ship if any of you would like to see them I will make a discussion for it! LOTS of WWII history there! It is pretty cool!!

Patty, Yes there is a barge coming in for berthing. No one is going to be staying on the ship. They are supposed to be in homeport for almost a year before the next deployment. Of course they will start work-ups or sea trials sometime this summer though. Wes is right. The weather this past week in SD was perfect! I do love it there I must admit. Difficult coming home last night to pouring rain and wind. Today was sunny, but chilly.
Welcome Jboysmom! Claudia is right about the A school graduation, but I am sure if you could make it your son would like that. I live in NJ and both of my sons went to PCola for A school so I was not able to get to their graduations. The Tiger cruise is a cruise offered to families(other than spouses or significant others) of sailors aboard ships or subs. Both of my sons are on carriers so I went on the TC for the USS Ronald Reagan. I flew to Hawaii, met the ship and cruised with them from Pearl Harbor to North Island Naval Air Base in San Diego. It was 7 days of about one of the most memorable experiences in my life! Other ships offer them too and from all sorts of locations and time lengths. Some ships also have even day cruises for families. Maybe you will get an opportunity to this at some point too. I am going to send our Ms. Patty on the the TC with the RR as her son his on the same ship!
Patty, start training now! Those ladders and "knee knockers" as they call them are serious business when you are not used to them!!!!!!! I will get you ready for the rest!

That's really about all it is. It's not fancy like PIR. There were only a handful of us there to see it but it was good to see what they had been doing for all those weeks and I got to take some pictures of it. My son wanted me to come so I went. I don't regret it at all. But yes, basically they get a certificate and a hand shake and that's it.

Hey friends!!!!

Have been watching g-baby this weekend while her parents went to a funeral of a friend that they went to college with in San Antonio, Tx. Pretty sad. He had leukemia and died at 25yrs. old. I thank the lord that both of mine are healthy!!

WELCOME BACK MARIANNE!!!!

What a awesome experience! I can't wait to see your pic's. and I can't wait to go on the next cruise. May be a while from what Wes said they are gonna be in San Diego for some time doing some work on the ship. Wes can get from his rack to the galley, the hanger bay and outside. That is all he is suppose to do until he goes through indoc tomorrow. He sounds good! He said there is not much storage space but he is sleeping fine. Gets pretty cold at night was going to go and buy some sweats. He said most of the people are gone on leave right now of course. He is hoping that he stays on the ship or in a barracks. He has heard that they are bringing in some berthing barges for the sailors to sleep in while the ship is undergoing maintenance. He seems to like San Diego. Said it was beautiful and the weather was nice. No humidity.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!!!! Welcome jboysmom!!! Hope you enjoy the group!!! These are a great bunch of ladies!! Hope you feel right at home. :o)

Claudia, I was told that the graduation from A-school was not much. They just walk up, get a piece of paper, shake and hand and it's done. But you said it was more. Please send me more information because we are wanting to go down for our son's graduation in December from A-school, but most have said it's not much.

jboysmom, welcome to our group. That is great that you got to visit with your son. I went to my son's graduation from A school at P-cola. It was great. They showed us all the areas and the things they learned at the school.

Marianne, welcome back. I'm glad your trip was great and I can't wait to see the pics.

Hi AS moms. I just joined this group. My son is in A-school in P-cola and is AS. He's only in his 3rd week of school there and is due to graduate Dec. 14th. I am very new to all this, but I did get to go visit with my son last weekend. It was great to get to see him and see where he lives and goes to school there in P-cola.

I have a question - What is a Tiger Cruise?
