Thanks Dianne! I appreciate the information. His graduation is 10/30. He has been gone 2 weeks and it seems like 2 months. Not hearing anything from him is so much harder than I ever imagined. Thank you again for answering my question. I hope we hear from him this week and hopefully a phone call in the next week or two!

Hi okielady, yes it is possible that he could be moved into the 900 division. Do not worry that he hasn't been receiving your letters, I'm sure he has. Even if they change his division they will find him and get his mail to him. You must remember that he can only write on Sundays, so you will not hear from him until midweek. When is his graduation? Hang in there!!

My son auditioned for the Navy band and was accepted as an MU. But, he is not in a 900 division at boot camp. We haven't heard from him except a short letter after he first got there and they had not started training yet. I was wondering if it is possible that he might be moved to a 900 division since he is a musician. Or once he is assigned a division will he stay in that division? We are concerned he might not be getting our letters since the division number/ship number are required on his mail. If he got moved to a 900 division we might not know it and we are sending mail to division 370. Does anyone know about 900 divisions??

My son plays the trumpet, but he didn't in bootcamp. He just wanted to lay low and get through it. My grand niece is excited about corresponding with your daughter. I told her mom she needs to wait until November.

Most audition for the band prior to boot camp and then at boot camp, they perform in the band (for graduations)

Kathy, you are too funny...have you seen her drive LOL. Do many change to MU or start out as MU before boot?

My daughter signed up for the Navy and had her audition prior to boot camp so she was able to change to an MU - which I'm glad - they had her down as a big equipment operator - I asked her recruiter - have you seen her drive yet? I think she said while at boot camp, someone from her division had a different rating and he ended up auditioning at Great Lakes to be a vocalist (they too go to the School of Music) and he changed his MU while at boot camp. I'd say it's easier to do the audition prior to boot camp. Most of the MU's have a college background, but that is not a requirement. Danielle went in right out of high school.

I'm trying to get her mom to join N4M, so hopefully she will. Do you know if while it boot camp they can change an MU's contract to something else?

I don't think she'd mind but it may have to be in November when she returns from her tour. The week before she leaves she has two concerts and then the E4 test plus last minute packing.
