Would your daughter be willing to correspond with my great niece? I think it would be good for her.

It sounds like the band sometimes flies to various places and meets up with the ship. The longest period she should be on the ship is 9-14 days. It will definitely be a new experience for her. The bands are in Newport Rhode Island, Washington DC, Yokosuka Japan, Naples Italy, Jacksonville FL, Millington TN, Great Lakes IL, Seattle WA, San Diego, CA, New Orleans, Norfolk VA, Pearl Harbor Hawaii, hmmm I think that's it...

Wow, so they will live on a ship for a while. Sounds like they keep them busy. Where beside Japan are the bands stationed?

Below is Danielle with some of the other band members of the Yokosuka Fireman's Band. They performed on the 12th.

We use Skype quite often -it's great. When the band isn't performing, she is practicing and they are trying new music, etc. She recently volunteered to play with the Yokosuka Fireman's band with 4 other members of the band last weekend and in a few days she'll be performing with the Tokyo Symphony. There are quite a few change of commands that she performs at and festivals as well. In just over a week, her band, The Far East Edition is going on tour and will catch up with the USS Blue Ridge. This will be her first big tour and first time on a ship too.

Do you use Skype a lot? What is her day like as a musician?

We're planning on meeting her in Hawaii in 2011, but she'll be home for a visit or two before then.
Dianne Comment by Dianne on September 14, 2009 at 1:59pm
Wow, Japan huh. Are you going to go and visit?

Kathy, thank you so much for the info. Where is your daughter stationed?
