Any faimlies with sailors on carriers? My son is just going to report to the Nimitz... just thought it would be nice to get to know other parents whose sailors are on them and how much contact do you get?

You're welcome. My son's ship had some of their port call cancelled once for over sharing by family members. Since then I've tried to let families know it's a possibility.  On another they were in communications black out. That was really tough.  Enjoy your calls.  I slept with my phone by the bed and sat straight up when it would ring at odds hours.  My son and I would joke about sharing a meal together, mine coffee and early breakfast and his dinner.  Always great to hear his voice. Lol and get his wish list for care packages.  We sent so much regularly that they joked he needed his own mail drop.

Stacy37075 I appreciate you letting me know, and I surely will be cautious don't want to get into trouble or get him into trouble, but on google it states where they are at, but thank you again and I will make sure I don't jeopardize  anything.

A word of caution, this is not a secure site. Sharing of time zones and ports of call can endanger navy personnel.  If it's not published by the command, it should not be shared.  In fact, if a command gets wind of it port calls have been cancelled before. After all that time at sea, it's the last thing we would want.   I know it's tough. I'm a military mom and a veteran.  Hang in there moms. It will get easier off at the very least, more familiar. Good will and best wishes from the east coast.

Thank you for the add, i am sure i will learn a lot from all the posts. This is the first time my son has been deployed finding it very hard not being able to talk with him on the phone.

Good Morning Ladies, just wanted to say that I received a message from my son, said all is well and ship life isn't to bad, missing us and we are him. said he gets to go through the hangar deck every now and then so a peek on the outside.

Hi Navymom2, thank you for your reply, I'm trying to stay busy and not focus too much on this or I will start getting sad. I know at one point he will reach out (I hope). I keep checking the face Book part but they really don't update much. Thank You though for sharing with me.

Comment by Navymom2 on February 13, 2018 at 8:22pm

Phoenixmom: I seem to recall from my first sailor that he would email when he could. Sometimes, they are not allowed to access the computers for security reasons. I joined the carrier group he was associated with and that helped. He would call me when they made port somewhere or on special holidays. Deployments can be long but you WILL hear from your sailor. Sounds like you are on top of things: his carrier group, email, snail mail.  Stay strong and know he is in good hands.

I did get on the USS Theodore Roosevelt Face Book, hoping to get a glimpse of him but they don't seem to update very much. I did ask him to get me on the Ombudsman email just in case. he said he would but like you said it may take time. Thank You for your help, it is  much appreciated.
