Yes, my son left on Tuesday too. I haven't heard from him either. Did your son grad on last friday in SD?

so have you heard from your son yet? My son's laptop was stolen the week before they graduated & he hasn't got a new one yet...it's driving me crazy...I'm sure they are safe but I just want to hear his voice tell me that... dropping him off at the airport Monday night & telling him goodbye was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do!

Oh ladies, careful!! It is great to find someone and connect, but posting the last names of your Sailors is an OPSEC violation! Sherry, you need to remove your last name from your profile and I'd suggest you add something distinctive to differentiate you from all the other Sherry's on site. :) We need to keep in mind the safety of our Sailors at all times, it's still our job to protect them. While they are away serving their country, they are vulnerable to identity theft amongst other things. No worries though. We all learn from each other around here.

Make a friend request of each other and use your PM (Private Message) options to share personal info like names, phone numbers, private e-mail addys etc. You can click on the little "x" to the upper right of your comment to delete it. Thank you! Any more questions, feel free to ask. I won't poke my nose into your discussion again and will delete this comment after yours are deleted. I sound like mission impossible " this comment will self destruct in 5 seconds..." LOL God Bless you and your Corpsmen!

thanks for your concern Angie, I appreciate your trying to educate everyone. so do you have a Corpsman in Okinawa in your family too or do you just patrol the site looking for OPSEC violations? LOL if you do have a family member over there how do you talk? what have you found to be the most economical way? is internet service expensive over there? I hate having my "baby" so far away...

Admittedly, Sherri, our old Admin called me one of her OPSEC "Bulldogs" LOL, hopefully my bark was soft and bite non existent! Just got curious as to how often our HMs went from Okinawa/Japan to the Sandbox. I also grew up next door to a family who was Hawaiian Japanese, originally from Okinawa. Love the culture, love sticky riceballs and shrimp etc, but never could get the taste for real Sushimi and seaweed strips. They ate those like we eat beef jerkey or fruit leather. LOL

Afraid I'm not of much use on your other questions though. My son is Reserves, soon to be going Spec Opps, a very different path for my Corpsman than I anticipated. Lots of time on my knees in the future just like you all. My hubby and I have decided when the time comes, that SKYPE, hands down, is the way to go. Moms all around this site love it! Course, if they are out in a remote field, not sure how well that will work? Communications are definitely a bugger, so is all that distance! They are in good hands though, just keep praying and supporting. Take care!

pssst. Blessed Mom, don't forget to delete your last name comment above. Now not sure I should delete my post, might look out of order now and funny! :)

My son just left today for FMTB training at Camp Pendleton. He just graduated from Corpsmen A school 2 weeks ago. He's been on leave for 2 weeks and it went by way too fast. We live in MD, he flew to Chicago, and then on to San Diego. He arrived just a few hours ago, and I'm afraid for him after reading some of these sites about Camp Pendleton murders and suicides. After FMTB, he goes on to Okinawa, Japan. He's scheduled to work at a clinic there in the hospital.

He will be okay, you just have to trust that God has him...I'm sure you raised him to be a strong person...& Camp Pendleton is HUGE, so just think of all the people that have been safe & sound out there, they just don't make the news...be thankful he will be in the clinic in Okinawa, my son will be going with the Marines to Afghanistan in December from Okinawa...but I remind myself that when it's "your time to go" it doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing, God will bring you home...its just so hard with him being so far away...I finally got a phone call from my son last night from Okinawa, it was great to hear his voice!

Hi Sherri, I heard from my son on Friday, I was very glad to hear from him. Your son and mine are in the same platoon. He knows him and thats great! So, lets keep intouch.

Sherri, thanks for the kind words of encouragement! Yes, I pray often during the day that God will always keep him safe. He wrote me last night that the base is beautiful and so is the surrounding area. He is 6'5" and his bunk is 3 inches off the floor and he has no headroom, so rolling out of bed each morning will be easy! Glad that you and a Blessed Mom got calls from your sons. I, too, worry that my son will be going to Afhanistan as that is often where they go after Okinawa. We have to stay strong for them.

Just a thought, he might as well do some pushups while he's down there every morning to get moving! My son is supposed to graduate Dental Asst C School on the 27th and then he heads to Camp Pendleton, then by January 1st, he is supposed to ship to Okinawa for FMF. I'm going to keep watching this discussion so I can prepare myself and him. THanks ladies.
