Gayle Matt's Mom Comment by Gayle Matt's Mom on June 26, 2009 at 8:12pm
Hello, I'm Matt's mom, and he just left after a 10 day leave to be stationed at Whidbey Is. NAS and will be in C school there. Exactly what is C school anyway? He is an AO and did his A school in Pensacola. He is going to be based at Whidbey for 4 yrs. Then he will do his sea duty. We live in Alabama, and Matt has lived here all of his life, except for boot camp, so he is in for an adventure.

Welcome Hoorah. 4th of July might be disappointing but in four weeks, he should get to come home (right???) San Diego is a beautiful location, will he be reporting to a ship or does he have shore duty?

Hi again, Cora. I sent you a message via your home page; I am still learning how to navigate throughout this site. I was talking to my son, and I asked him if I could give you his phone number to pass on to your daughter, in case she would like to give him a call. He knows a few people there, but it wouldn't hurt to make another friend. So your daughter is getting deployed to Japan? That sounds exciting (for her) but kind of scary (for you). When my son left for boot camp, I was a wreck for the first three or four weeks; that was the farthest away from me he had ever been, plus the inability to communicate made it even more difficult. I felt a little better when he was in 'A' school in Pensacola, but he didn't really like it there as much as he likes Washington. I am hoping his orders to go to Hawaii don't change; he's really excited about going there, and, I must admit, the thought of visiting him there is pretty exciting, too!! Anyway, thanks so much for getting back to me. I still have days where I miss Adam terribly, but I know he is in the best place right now, especially considering the state of the economy. I am thrilled that he is getting to see places and things that he otherwise would not have had the chance to. I'm sorry if I am rambling; it's just so nice to talk to someone who had a child in the Navy. Thanks for listening, and I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great evening!!

Brooklyn was born in Phoenix Arizona, then we moved to Michigan and lived there 10 years and then moved to North Carolina in dec 2000 when she was in 8th Grade. She is settling in in Whidbey Island Washington and loving it! She has only been there a week today but seems longer to me. She is the ONLY female attached to her squadron, and has now been nicknmed "Skirt". LOl She has been working on Jets coming in from Afganistan and learning alot and doesnt even start C School till July 13th. She reports in japan Aug 3rd. She may only have to stay one year instead of two so guess I have a year to get her to purchase some things for me over there once she gets there. Hawaii is really nice. Your son should enjoy it there!

My son arrived at Whidbey Island, Washington, on Friday, April 3, for his C School. I believe he is working/studying to be an Aviation Machinist's Mate. The reason I am not 100% positive is because he has changed his field a couple of times since graduating boot camp in October, 2008. He is scheduled to deploy to Kenohoe Bay, Hawaii, on July 29, for the remainder of his enlistment, unless his orders change between now and then. He attended boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, and A School in Pensacola, Florida. I live in Port Charlotte, Florida, which is where my son, Adam Barrett, was born. Where is your daughter, Brooklyn, from?
