I know some of you have asked about "C" schools that could be offered to your sailors.  Let me explain and give you a little background about what a "C" school is.  Lets say you want to learn to be an auto mechanic, that school would be considered an "A" school.  You are learning the basics.  Now suppose you want to be an auto mechanic that specializes on Corvettes.  Well you still need the basics, but now you need another school to learn Corvettes.  That school would be like a "C" school because now your not just a plain old auto mechanic, now you are a specialist.

Same as the Navy.  You learn the basics in "A" school, then you go to a "C" school to learn a special skill.  When you go to a "C" school, you are assigned a Navy Enlisted Code (NEC) that tells everyone what your specialty is.  To find all the schools offered, you can go to this link:  http://www.bupers.navy.mil/NR/rdonlyres/89E4DCCF-5161-4DC7-9FF1-075...

To give you an example how this works, lets use CTT for an example.  Use the find button and search on CTT.  Keep hitting the find button and you will get to the 1st section for CTT which is 1702.  CTT's have several in the 1700 area.  Then the next group is the 9100 group.  You can even see that CTT's are doing OS, ET, and other rating jobs.  These NEC number are always listed in numerical order.

JimC. Thank you for the info!

DorriO, it dependss on which CTT they signed up for. I can't find any rank garuntees for the 4 year CTT. The 6 year CTT (AEF) does have a rank gaurentee depending on completion of the schools. This is a direct quote from the rating card for CTT AEF

Enlistees enter Recruit Training Command (RTC) as E-1s (seaman recruits). AEF CTT recruits are advanced to E-2 (seaman apprentice) after successful completion of recruit training. Advancement to E-3 is contingent upon completion of all advancement-in-rate requirements (including minimum time-in-rate). CTTs maintaining eligibility in the AEF program are awarded accelerated advancement to E-4 after successful completion of their "A" and "C" schools if all advancement-in-rate requirements are complete. CTTs that qualify are outstanding candidates for officer accession programs including Seaman to Admiral, Limited Duty Officer, Warrant Officer, and the Enlisted Commissioning Program.

This language is not in the 4 year CTT rating card. With that said if your sailor meets the requirements, has time in rank and can pass the test I don't see why E3 would be a problem.

Thank you for calling attention to my question, Craig. I also asked it in the CTR discussion above. That way more people will (hopefully) see it.

My son told me he would be an E3.
Comment by DorriO on February 5, 2011 at 2:17pm
What grade will a Sailor coming out of A school as a CTT be?  My SR is at RTC on medical hold for shin fractures, but should PIR 3/18, 3/25, or 4/1 as he will be 4-3 day when he gets placed in a new division.  Sadly, he would have PIR-d NEXT FRIDAY, 2/11 had he not gotten hurt )-:  Any advice is appreciated!
Comment by cinder on February 5, 2011 at 12:26pm
My son is CTT and gets done with BC 3/18.  From what I have been reading it looks like quite a few SR are  going to CT school.
Comment by sunshine73 on February 5, 2011 at 12:17pm

Myson is CTR but still in BC so I can't really help. I was under the impression that C school was also in P'cola but I really don't know enough for you to go by my thoughts. Have you tried the US Navy Crypto fb page? You might can get an accurate answer pretty quick on there.

My son's PIR is 3/4 and he thinks he will also be leaving early Saturday the morning following. He said that an A school rep hasn't told him for sure yet.  Is this standard for CTs? I was hoping for longer with my SR before he left but am happy that he gets to leave all that cold weather.
