Welcome! My daughter joined 10/8/08 and is on the USS Essex out of Sasebo, Japan. When did you son leave for BC?

Hi everyone. My son is currently in BC, PIR 9/18 then off to A school to become a DC.

The first time for all these things are the roughest. My son also went directly to A school and then came home for a 2 week leave and went to San Diego. He was a little unhappy about it at first because he was somewhat homesick, but he fell in love with San Diego and wants to go back there. He then went to Pearl Harbor and is now on his way to GL to be a BECC instructor. So it all does work out, but I still really miss him I guess that will never change but learn to deal with.

My son also went to A school right after boot camp. I arrived for his PIR weekend, saw the fantastic graduation. and we spent some time together Fri and Sat. Sunday he had duty, so it was limited for us to visit. Then he had to report on Tuesday, but I couldn't stay Monday. A school was finished in May and he had two weeks at home before reporting to his ship. He was all kinds of homesick when he first got to Florida. I kept telling him to keep his chin up and remember there is an end date to everything in life (good or bad). Your attitude for each day is important. He's doing much better, and is on his first deployment. I'm learning to be creative sending care packages. seeya!

Liz,
thanks for the information, I wouldn't miss PIR; God willing. I live in Northern Indiana so not too long of a drive for me, and i'm hoping to be able to visit when he is in A school, Not sure if he is allowed, or if he will have the weekends off, but if he does I can visit. I am so proud of my son and am as excited about his furture/up-comming experiences as he is ( I always told him he needed to get out and experience life and things, so he would have a variety of options for his life) .........just going to really miss him, he's my only child and it's always been him and I so it's going to be a big adjustment for me.

How soon did your son find out where he would be stationed???

Thanks again
