Dont forget to___________ before he/she leaves for bootcamp, A school, C school, or duty station.

This discussion is for the parents and spouses of DEPPER's. I have heard of alot of things that we should not forget so...If there is something that someone on another group has posted or if someone posts something on our main page and you dont want it to get lost in the shuffle (since we are such an active group :)...). Post it here. I will start with three very important things that I have heard so far that I feel should never get lost.

fyi, you can have your recruits phone shut off while they are in bootcamp, the cell ph company will hold your childs number so they can re-activate it once they get out of bc. that way you are not paying for a phone that is not in use.

This form is perfect! We filled it out and took it over to a Notary. No need for an attorney. Hope this helps.

My sister in law is in the DEP (NAVY Reserves) and will leave in January. She's a single Mom and my husband and I will be the guardians for our school age niece. Any single mom's ( and dad's) be sure your child's school and day care center have a copy of the guardianship papers. Also let the guardian meet your child's teacher and be sure the teacher knows you will be gone in case the child's behavior in school is affected by your leaving initially.. If you receive free or reduced lunch for your school age children or assistance with day care fees, be sure to find out how your enlistment will affect your eligibility and make arrangements to pay for day care your child will need while you are gone. Your child's guardian's work schedule may necesitate your child being in day care more hours than when you are home. Also be sure to give your child's guardian a Medical Power of Attorney for your child in case of need for emergency treatment. If your apartment lease will expire in the middle of boot camp or A school, be sure to take care of this issue with your landlord.

I do not know if anyone else mentioned this here, but another thing to do is get your Traveling Visa in order so that you can leave the country in a hurry if lord forbid it is needed. I have heard horror stories of parents/spouses being stuck here waiting on a visa while the military man/woman was in hospital in a foriegn country in bad shape. We want to be able to go as quickly as possible if the unthinkable should happen.

I am one to advice, i still have not done this even though I have been a Navy mom for more than a year now!
