I just found this link that is really worth checking out.
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/navyjobs.htm
There is info on all the rates including job descriptions, duties, work environment, advancement trends, career progression, etc.

For those who (like me) enjoy reading & learning about all things Navy, here's a link for ya:

That is a link to the All Hands Magazine 2009 edition they do at the beginning of year that they call the "Owners & Operators Manual". It's a really nice overview of all-things-Navy. Enjoy!

Kathryns link and another I posted in Jan '09 is now outdated/won't work. I've deleted my original to avoid confusion. Here are the new ones:

Don't forget to file this one away too , so you can check it once your form letter comes and you have their Ship (Barracks) # and Division# on their address. One of the most common questions on BC Moms is "How do I find out when they will graduate or when their PIR (Pass in Review-Graduation) date will be? Now, you'll be ahead of the game. =)

http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp

RTC sends Tri fold Grad "Packets" home around week # 4 of BC. DON"T buy your plane tickets too soon! If it's at all possible, try to make sure they are refundable OR exchangeable. The PIR date is set for each Division, BUT things can always change (and sometimes do) for an individual Recruit!

This is what your Recruits paychecks will look like (when they are done paying for their uniforms)...

E-3 - $1,649.70; E-2 - $1,568.70; E-1 - $1,399.50 This is pay before taxes per mo. with less than 2 years in the military. Link here to see the 2009 military chart.

I found these websites with Navy Music to download to play at Alek's Anchor's Aweigh. The first is the Navy Band, the second has several different groups.
