That's funny Ron! LOL I think I would have too. My son already has his wisdom teeth and they don't give him any trouble. Can he request that they leave them alone? It's horrible that they remove good teeth. You never know in the future if you're going to need them for a bridge or something. My son is leaving in 23 days. I feel lost already! :(

Brandon had his removed last Tuesday. He went to the dentist because one of them was starting to poke through and give him pain. The dentist told him, and I quote "Well we only need to pull the one right now, However when you go to bootcamp they are going to pull them anyway. So either I can pull them all now, or you can wait until bootcamp where some kid across the street in A School gets to use your wisdom teeth to learn on!" Brandon said "Get 'em out of there" .....LOL

I told Justin today that he would probably have to have his wisdom teeth taken out during BC. I also offered to have them removed before he leaves. His answer was that he did not want to waste any of his civilian time in pain especially if it got him a few days rest during BC. Funny....I never thought about it thiat way.

Does that fairy leave money under their pillows?
Donna Comment by Donna on November 23, 2008 at 7:35pm
I guarantee if your recruit has their wisdom teeth they won't have them by the time BC is over. They do have a wisdom tooth fairy that will take them in a heart beat. LOL My son Matt didn't have any problem with the removal. Some of the recruits are down a few days, some weeks. This could set your child back in BC. So if they have problems with mild surg. or just are not strong when it comes to discomfort. It maybe a smart idea to have them removed before. Just something to think about.

Our daughters wisdoms haven't come through yet, so will they surgically remove them? LOL, I'm sure she'll enjoy the additional rest.

Maureen LOL I thought about having his removed before he leaves. He dont like the idea at all but I am trying to convince him now or later what is better ROFL. Thank you for being here and helping.

Hello, I am the mom of a nuke, currently in BC with PIR (graduation) set for 12/5. I figured I would "pay it forward" by joining here to help DEPpers out with their questions.

One thing I've gotten a couple of questions on is wisdom teeth. From what I can understand, the Navy just doesn't like wisdom teeth, and will remove them at BC. Their main concern would be the teeth coming in while out to sea and a sailor going thru a couple months of severe pain (or having to be airlifted off the ship $$$$) so they remove them as a preventative thing since they do not keep an oral surgeon on every boat If you are concerned about your sailor going thru this at boot camp, you may consider having them removed before he goes in, but for most it isn't that big of a deal.

Michelle, glad to hear you're feeling better, just in time for Thanksgiving. I'll keep you posted on any gift ideas. I did like Ron's idea of a portable DVD player with movies. Thanks Ron!

Tim: Welcome, I'm so glad you've joined our group. I look forward to picking your brain as the days get closer to BC. I'm also going to give Kyle's recruiter a call on Monday and see about getting additional info on Spec Op.

Hi Cassie's mom. I am so happy to see that you joined the group. Welcome!! Your question about Cassie in the rotc below could be addressed to Tim Talbott. He is a Navy Counselor and a member of Deppers. He might know the answer or direct you on how to get the answer. Good luck.
