Hi all. I finally made my reservations for graduation, and I wanted to pass on some information to the rest of you in case you still need to make your reservations. The most time-consuming part was finding a hotel that had space -- well, a lot of hotels had space but not the right kind of space for me because I need two beds in my room. There were still plenty of king rooms still available, so for a couple it would be great. Anyhow, after two hours of looking around on Google maps for a good place to stay, I finally ran across the Hilton Garden Inn located at 26225 North River Woods Blvd., Lake Forest. The have a Navy Graduation Special. I got a room with two queen beds for $79 per night! I travel a lot for work and have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn several times, and the facilites have always been very nice, so to get the room for $79 a night is awesome!!

The other thing I wanted to mention is thatone ofthe hotels I had contacted to see if they had room (but they ddin't), told me about a transportation service that runs from certain hotels to GL for graduation. I haven't called them yet to inquire about whether they pick up at the Hliton yet, but I will. Anyhow, their information is Premier Transportation, phone (847) 855-8294. They pick up between 6:30 am and 8:00 am every 30 minutes. The trips back to your hotel run from 10:30 am to noon every 30 minutes.

I hope some of that information is helpful to you guys!!

Gini, I'm very glad that you found out why your son wasn't able to call last week. I hope that makes you feel better!! I can't believe they only give these guys 2 days of bed rest; getting your wisdom teeth out is pretty harsh. But what better what to see what they are made of!! LOL

Hello Joy and all! I got several letters today from my son and he didn't get to call last week because he was on bed rest for 2 days because of his wisdom teeth. He had 2 teeth coming in horizontally and he actually had to sedate him (unheard of in boot camp). He also even got pain killers. anyway, I just wanted you all to know. Joy-my son is carrying a flag too he said. I don't know if that means that he will at the ceremony or what. I know very little about this. By the way, my son said he is definitely grad and go.

One more thing. I was trying to find out more information about GNG, and I came across a family "handbook" on the GL website. If anyone is interested in taking a look, here is the link: http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/fam_guide.asp. It says that even if they are GNG, they could leave on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Only your recruit will know their travel information, so we are supposed to keep in touch with them. Seriously?!! Are they kidding?!! Anyhow, there it is for anyone who wants it.

Did anyone get a letter yesterday? My son's letters always show up on Wednesday but I didn't get one yesterday. ;-(
I wrote him a "tough love" letter a few weeks back, and I'm just wondering if it made him so mad that he's not going to write to me now. LOL

YA,,i am confused too...got packet-gives info about grad & go--but how do u know if he is or no--newphew going to FL for A school,,are grad & go only for GL A school ppl ?? seems dumb -- Y bother w/ grad & go if school is around corner ? how can i make reservations for hotel -not knowing how many nights ?
B-Dog's mom Comment by B-Dog's mom on June 24, 2009 at 10:15am
Sounds like we all got our packets. Even though they are grad and go, if they are staying at GL for their A school, they will need to check in at the school which is time consuming but then they will get liberty is what I understand. So don't give up hope!

Getting the grad packet means that he is scheduled to graduate on July 24. It doesn't mean that it's guaranteed he will gradaute. If he doesn't pass his final PFA, or if he has to re-do Battle Stations, or something along those lines, his graduation could be delayed. I talked to one mom who flew to Chicago the day before graduation only to learn that her son wouldn't be graduating the next day. I think in most cases, we'd probably know a few days before the graduation if something had happened. At least I hope so. However, the Navy does strongly recommend that you purchase refundable airline tickets ... I'm sure your fiance will do just great and will graduate on time (as will everyone else)!!! Keep up the faith!
