I wonder if their recruiter can find out more info. Ricky really had his heart set on getting into the photo journalism school but they stuck him in the mineman rating. He was going to try and meet with a classifier at Great Lakes to see about getting changed over. He missed meeting because he had to stand watch and then catch up with all the training and exams he missed while he was sick. I hope he gets a break or meets with someone that doesn't discourage him.

I had three envelopes from Danielle today - one was the packet! I wish I could pick up the phone and talk with her - she last wrote on Monday that she was pretty sick, felt like she was running a fever....hopefully it doesn't keep her down long - she was hoarse and had a cough Friday before. She found out after her A-school she will probably be heading to Jacksonville, FL to the band there :)

I finally got a call back from Ricky's dad and he told me "oh yeah, I got a call from him on Friday also plus I got the graduation package last week". Great, he has had it for a week and not a word till now while I was freaking out here with no sign of a packet.
I don't know if they only send one packet so he got it and after I asked him a couple of times he decided he can fax me a copy. Big of him. So I will get it tomorrow when I get to work, I hope.

Take care......we are busy looking at Hannah and terrified of Ike and Josephine. Those two storms are strong nasty hurricanes and we are in the path so please keep your fingers crossed for all of us in the hurricane zone.

Hi, I got a call too! She called me about 10 mintues after getting to the campground. So my folks, my brother and his kids all got to talk to her too on the speaker phone. She sounded great - she caught the crud too...said she came down with it a few days before - I asked if she knew Flores she said OH YEAH, I know Flores. I had her call her dad so he could talk to her too, he asked if she was having fun and she said she was having a blast..we did send them to boot camp right? Can't wait to meet other parents too. Looking forward to the next letter and phone call.

Hi there! I finally got a call and he was very upbeat but sounded very tired and sick. He has a deep chest cough and told me he is taking medicine and will be just fine. So another comes down with the crud!
He is the division 946 mail PO and also told me he is carrying a division flag when they do their marching. He says that is a big deal so woo hoo for him!

He is super excited about graduation in 34 days and told me that battle stations will be that Tuesday.

He is playing the trombone in band and enjoying himself and can't believe how fast the days are flying by.

Cathy, he knows Danielle and says she is fine. Sorry, he isn't great on details but he assured me she's well and is gonna get through just great.

That is the story from our home tonight...........

Heah Kathy, I got another letter (short, like a memo) from Ricky today and he didn't sound as upbeat. More like tired and a bit testy that his division has had some set backs due to some mistakes made by others, no details. He said he is now the Mail PO which means he gets to go daily to pick up the mail and it gives him a little chance to relax and hang out with the others like him, while they wait for their division's mail. So, ask Danielle if she knows Flores, Ricardo the silly clown mail PO.

He said he can't wait to see me at graduation and wants basic to be finished ASAP. I guess they are being pressed into form and made to work out. He sounded tired. Said their division gets tested )?) like 5 times per week? I can't make out his handwriting sometimes.

He said Sundays are awesome and that he loves going to mass because their priest is very nice and funny. He said he looks so forward to mass, it sounds like a relief.

But Sundays he says they have "holiday routine from 7am to 1pm, with time to write, fix their racks, iron, etc" plus attend mass.

The letter was too short and written early in the week, the envelope stamp reads that it left Great Lakes on the 23rd so it takes about 5 days in each direction.

He said he was overwhelmed with all the mail he is receiving and it really makes him feel so well, so happy. He especially is enjoying the comic strips I cut and send in the letters and the news clippings I enclose.

Again, I have asked that he:
1. date all mail so I can keep better track of what he is going thru
2. find Danielle. tell her we chat on Navy4Moms, and let me know how she is.......to send you a message
3. to get names of mates that are in need of extra support, who need to receive mail
4, find out who doesn't have family attending and perhaps need to hang out with us

He hasn't even mentioned band again so I have been asking him in my letters, hope he responds at some point. Geeze, these kids don't get that we are desperate for news!!!!!!!

I can't imagine that we are the ONLY div946 moms. At first I started to think maybe the info was incorrect and that this division didn't exist. But once I got the form letter and when you and I connected is when I realized that the info is right. It's strange...

So that is it for tonight. No calls and no grad package. I hate having to call his father to find out if he has received any info, calls or grad pack but I might on Sunday if I don't get another call. I hate to be a bother but I am anxious to hear his voice. I also sent his father all the links to the GL website, grad info, area hotels, and this website and my page on this site. No further info from them and no acknowledgements. Nice.

Well, have a good evening.

Gee it must be our kids are going to perform a duet at their PIR!....where are the other moms of Div 946 Ship 6?? We can't be the only ones here can we? :) According to Danielle, Division 946 is a Triple Threat - Band, Choir and Drill. I have never wanted summer to end so quickly - come on October - get here soon!

I haven't had a call from Danielle except for the 10 second one after she arrived. I'm just so happy to have her first letter. I mailed out a card with 3-4 letters yesterday and I figure I'll send another today with a bunch of questions. One mom suggested I send a list of questions and leave room between them so all they have to do is put down the answer and send it back. I'll write to her today to see if she knows your son. She said they were added to the 946 Division and most of them had arrived the week before her. I had to laugh, one day she said she left the back of her shirt untucked and said that was bad....very bad. She had to write a 5000 word essay. Bet she doesn't leave her shirt untucked in the back again!

Kathy,
Your daughter sounds so talented and mature! How wonderful for her to get into the music program. You must be so proud! If I speak with Ricky I will definitely ask him if they have met. I keep forgetting to ask on a letter. Duh......I get brain dead....

Isn't this forum website wonderful? Such a great place for us to connect and give each other support. Love it!

Have a terrific day...ask Danielle if she has met Ricky if you remember...
