Does anyone know for sure when the ET schooling begins. I have seen chatter about different dates and my Sailor-girl is also getting some confusing dates too. Help!?!

Thanks BethB I realize all that you said I was just curious how long he had been on hold.

Well said Beth B., I agree with you. I don't worry bout my sailor being on hold. She has a career and a purpose in life, excet for missing her son, she is adjusting well to miltary life. The "Hurry up an wait" describes it very well, my father was Army and he said that a lot! Lol. Hugss ~ Vicky

Barbara - he finished ATT school back in the beginning of August. His PIR from BC was March 20. Getting into INDOC and ATT were relatively short holds, but this has been the longest. As far as being anxious about getting started, the best thing to remember is that "It Is What It Is" and that military life is all about the Hurry Up And Wait. Keeping a positive attitude and going with the flow is key. He has a job where he won't be a victim of layoffs, has better health care and insurance than most, and is getting a guaranteed paycheck no matter what duty he is performing. The way I see things, I certainly had to pay my dues to get where I am in my career, and this is him paying his. there will be plenty of times when he is actually done with training and sets foot on some boat in the middle of some ocean with nothing else to do when he's not "fixing things so that blowing things up occur"..... and will probably be doing the same kind of cleaning, scraping barnacles, or whatever duty is needed. After all, they can't exactly jump ship and head out to the mall when their duty shift is over! So, this is just what Navy life is about, I guess. While the time frame is not exactly as we anticipated, I'm greatful that at least he's actually doing something with his life that has a purpose and is debt free. And the longer the holds, the longer he's not in harm's way. Thankfully, there are a lot of family, friends and others that I forced him to talk while in DEP that gave him a lot of good advice on surviving the military way, and it seems to have sunk in because he has done very well (nominated Best of the Best twice in ATT and is now Master At arms). Not bad for a kid just getting started at the (then) tender age of 19, at a time when his college friends have yet to realize what real responsibility and purpose is.
Keep the faith - things will move along. When he was a mid-teen, I kept telling him not to be in such a hurry to be an adult because it sucks with all of the responsibilities and obligations. Same thing can possibly apply here, depending on where our Sailors will be needed in this somewhat vicious world. I'm just glad that we as a nation try to provide for these guys the best training and equipment to give them the upper hand.

Mary - welcome back - you have been and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. I am glad that Nick was able to make it home to be with his family.

Julie Congrats on the up coming wedding. Tell your daughter I wish her and her soon to be husband many years of happiness. There are many ways to do a wonderfull wedding on a shoe string budget these days. I just got remarried last Oct. and we had a great time, I have posted some photo's on my home page feel free to check them out. I did all the flowers myself for under $50.00 and I had 8 women in my bridal party. I also did all of my own center pieces and my dress was under $1000.00 it can be done trust me we did the whole thing for around 17 thousand. If you need any ideas drop me a line I have a lot of great web sites that can help you out.
