Navy For Moms

Here's a fun thread I thought might help to lift our spirits from time to time. What is a goofy thing you do to help you cope with the fact your kid is going in the NAVY? Have you bought any NAVY mom stuff yet? Do you have a place in your house that looks like a shrine to the NAVY? Tell us what you are doing or are going to do now that the NAVY is on your radar..

LOL! no i havent started a shrine yet but I know I will. I really want a proud NAVY mom Sweatshirt! Oh and a cling on for my car. Any ideas where I can get those? I dont really want a sticker but I will if I have to! Even now when I think about him being gone I tear up! I am trying to not do that but it will be hard the day he leaves :)

Shortly after my son went to MEPS. I was online and for some reason I ended up at the "Build A Bear workshop website. I has an epiphany! Later that night I spoke with my son and told him before he shipped off to BC He and I would have to go to our local BAB workshop and he would have to build a bear with his mom. They have sailor bears you can make and they also have a cool little voice recording gadget that is placed in side the bear. When you press the button you hear a little message from your loved one. How cool is that! I thought it would be good so when my son is away and I can't talk to him I at least have a fuzzy bear and his voice to keep me company.

That is an awesome idea!! My son left about an hour ago for MEPS... I cried as I watched him and his recruiter pull out of the parking lot.

I like the Sailor Bear idea! I have my "Proud Mom of a Sailor" bumper sticker near my desk. I promised Robert I wouldn't put it on the car until the day he leaves for BC! I also have Navy Mom on my cell phone banner. My dad was Navy, tho' so even though I never had a chance to know him, I have always kind of been a Navy girl. :-) I guess that MAY have influenced my son's decision about which branch he went into, ya think? :-)

I have a NAVY Cling on my car. My windows are tinted so it is hard to see. I think I got it at an Air Show some time back. cafepress.com has some neat things. There is a link on the right just above events. If you type NAVY in the search box all kinds of stuff comes up. I have even goggled NAVY T-shirts and have gotten all sorts of sites. My son got a proud parent of a sailor bumper sticker when he was at MEPS. It is in the NAVY shrine. Recruiters and any event where there are recruiters usually have great stuff to give out. Happy hunting!!

I LOVE the BAB idea! Creative idea! My son left this morning for MEPS and I cried when he could not see me anymore. It is really hard. I think we will have to go to BAB when he comes home in a few days! Thanks!

My daughter, 18, will be leaving Aug. 28th. So far I have bought a Navy ski hat for her, a magnet for her car and a shirt for me. I will soon be buying a Navy Mom baseball hat too.

For her going away party I have bought two red, white and blue with stars table cloths, star shaped bowls and paper plates with stars. All NAVY blue of coarse. I was also able to buy an edible cake top that has the Navy seal on it that also says " United States Navy We will miss you Christina". This I am the most proud of, because she didn't know I could do that for her cake.

The "oddest" thing I do is smell her hair everytime she hugs and kisses me. These 27 days are going to go fast! I hope BC goes faster!!!

Where did you fine the edible cake top with the Navy seal on it. I have been looking but haven't been able to find one. I would love to have one for his going away party.

I will miss his bathroom with the boxers in the floor. The toothpaste in the sink. But most of all, the I love you mom's and his wet kisses to the cheek.

This is so funny. I guess we all get giddy about the Navy. Of course we have a Navy tag on the car. Every time I see something with Navy on it, I buy it. So far we have the tag, several Tshirts, a cap a note book and my daughter bought him a Navy scrapbook for Christmas. We will have him burned out before February. We also have the Proud Parents of a Sailor on the bumper of the car.LOL
