Hello Everyone, I am still pretty new to all of this. My oldest daughter Kourtney is planning on enlisting June 22. We talk to her recruiter Monday, November 3. My second oldest Michaela has been in Sea Cadets for almost 4 months now, it's like a pre-Navy. Michaela will be able to enlist as an E-3, because of having gone through Sea Cadets. Kourtney has only recently decided to enlist, she has always wanted to be a U.S Marshall, and had talked to some people and was told that a Military background was needed. She wants to go Master-At-Arms, and I guess go from there and do what ever she has to. Kourtney will go into DEP in June, at that time she will be a Senior, I still don't understand all that yet, I'm sure I'll get those questions answered Monday. Yes I'm very nervous, i don't know what to expect, with Michaela it wasn't so much a reality yet given she still has 2 years before she can enlist, she plans on JAG. Kourtney is right here, right now, I didn't see it coming. I'm VERY PROUD of both of my girls though!!! Hopefully everyone is staying warm and dry! Talk to ya'll later1

Andrew's Mom, I hope so. I have to admit that I am worried. Many have told me that the Navy knows how to create men and women out of the "children" that we send them. I don't think that I will be able to not get things together for him. (just in case)

Kathy I cannot relate to this as my son had already left home and went to college and then was living on his own--so he is actually back home with us now waiting to ship--My son in law was in the house with us when he was shipping to Marine bootcamp and it seemed to me that he was playing and what not and i was more concerned about getting him ready--I truely think it is their age a bit--i thought Cory would never make it--couldnt imagine it was possible--but he did and I realized he was just having a bit of fun before he left and knew his responsiblities started at that point--let him have his free time, he will realize soon enough that that is over with for awhile!!!! But int he meantime I did go ahead and get things in place for Cory just in case LOL

Hello everyone, I'm so glad I found this group. My son James has just graduated from High School and is in the DEP. He is scheduled to leave for GL on October 9th. I tend to find myself preparing for him leaving more than he is. Is anyone else experiencing this?

We finish MEPS June 10-11 with oath on the 11th (we will be there when he meets with the career officer and for his oath enlistment ceremony). Obviously we won't know a date for BC at GL until then. MEPS is only 40 miles from our home and the recruiter is picking him up at our home. The recruiter has also been to our home this week for some of the MEPS paperwork. Eventually I will want to be in touch with a group of moms who have sons/daughters starting BC at GL during the same time period.

My son is also in DEP and leaves in July for b-camp. He is completing his second year of college and had been very undecided with what he wanted to do. The navy had been a consideration for him for several years. He spent 5 years in the Navy Sea Cadet Corps during jr high and high school, so he does have an idea of what to expect. When he finally made the decision to enlist, it was like a huge weight had been lifted off him, and I had not seen him so happy and excited in a very long time. He will be going into EOD after bc. Last week he passed the physical fitness test for EOD and received his t-shirt. When he called me from College Station to tell me, I could feel him smiling from ear to ear over the phone. I admit I am concerned about his decision, but he has become the happy, focused young man that I had been missing.

Hello Moms! My son is going to join the DEP Program in June, when he is officially a Senior in High School. Has anyone else gone through this program or are their children thinking of this program? I have so many questions regarding Navy life. I didn't know where to go for answers .. so glad I found this site!
