Sonj-we are "in the same boat" (pun intended!) After speaking with our sons recruiter, he has decided to also keep in shape, stay in close contact with the recruiter and go to school for some technical training/certification to make him more desirable when there are jobs available. Oh mymy-what a long road this is!

sonj -stay in contact with the recruiter, show up for meetings, keep in shape, be flexible about waht he is willing to do and get on with life. It could be a long wait. my son is 7 months and counting. the wait is a killer so it is important to carry on with usual activities and stay busy. good luck.

Hello, everyone! I am a new member to your group. I see several posts about the US Naval Sea Cadets. I am the Instructor/Administrative Officer for the Baton Rouge Division and my son plans to enlist in the NAVY after graduation in 2011. We are always looking for new cadets to train for their future in the NAVY. Please contact me if your son or daughter is interested. We are also in need of adult officers/volunteers.

Hello ladies, anyone else have a child leaving 12-02? 53 days and counting. I always hated roller coasters, what a ride this is!!

Sonj- It is because your son is still a minor. It would be best for him for you to sign while he is still in school, for some reason they offer our kids still in school more jobs than our kids that have graduated? This is what my son's recruiter informed us of.
Kathy- The only jobs available right now are special ops. When Chris went a couple of weeks ago for his job and was put on hold all of the jobs were taken. It is because the Navy is at 100% right now. Chris is going for EOD, what is your son's choice? I know about the roller coaster ride we have been up, down, sideways and all around on this roller coaster since July. It is frustrating I know, it is not the Navy it is MEPS. MEPS is being really picky right now because we are 100% full and the standards have changed too from years ago, which is good because it protects our children more. I am here for you and I know how you feel. I will add you to my invite page. Look for it.

we are also on hold for another waiver and also finally hear from the recruiter what has been written here, that they are not taking any new recruits unless they will be signing up for specific jobs, of which, at the moment I am unable to pull from my head! This has been a rollercoaster ride like no other. Have any of you heard this news again?

30 days and counting till Nov 11 and my 21 year old son will be leaving to start a new chapter in his life. Actually, one book will be ending and a new book will be begining. I'm so proud to call him my son. He is my oldest of 2 boys and still lives at home, well at least another 30 days anyway. He is working out everyday and can't wait till he leaves. I'm lucky, I'm taking 2 days off from work just to be able to spend the last 2 days with him, one day to drive him to the recuriters office and the next day to see him swear in, again. Wow, these past 5 months have gone by so fast. It seems just like yesterday when he enlisted in DEP.

Hi My son will be going for physical and test soon. Did any of you sign consent for your son to sign? He is 17. I felt a bit funny about this. Thinking of you Mary jo. I will be there soon myself. Hang in there!
