Hi all, My boyfriend just left for boot camp yesterday and I feel very lost. We have been in a long distance relationship for 4 months now but we have been best friends for 3 years. I am so proud of him but I am so hurt by not being able to talk with him. Am I wrong for feeling this way? I just want to know anything that can help me get through this. I have not gotten his address yet but I have started writing letters already. Is writing every day too much?

Be sure to sign up for Informed Delivery through the USPS.  It's free and you get an email every morning letting you know what mail you will receive for the day.

I'm a little late to this thread, but what you're feeling is absolutely normal.  This kind of change is so hard and it is literally world rocking.  My boyfriend left the day before yours, and it's been so tough!  Heck, it's going on week three and I sometimes still feel like I did the day after he left!

Miss him, write to him, look at pictures, listen to your guy's favorite songs, and feel what you're feeling.    I hope you've received some letters from him!!  I just got some from my boyfriend today and it is like a breath of fresh air!  He said they get letters everyday if there are any that have been delivered so I say write every day or every other day.  Sounds like even though they are working their booty's off they still have time at night to read and write and miss you just like you miss him.  I hope you're doing alright and if you want to chat I'll be available!! :)

You're not wrong for feeling this way at all. My boyfriend and I have been long distance for 4 and a half years; tomorrow makes 2 weeks that he's been at bootcamp. It's been hard without being able to talk to him but I literally write letters in the notes section of my phone everyday and that helps. Also, looking back at old pictures and videos from our visits helps as well. You can even watch youtube videos and see how other MILSO's dealt with it.

Hi rachmo4!
I'm in the exact same position you are in. I am already missing my boyfriend even though he hasn't left yet and is right down the street (and I see him everyday lol) it is a very difficult thing to deal with. it can be very confusing and tough, and often times the people around you don't really understand what you're going through. You're never wrong for the way you feel. An awesome app you should look into is Sandboxx. You can send letters through the app and they will reach your boyfriend in two days, which is super awesome! It basically works as a "twitter for the military". There's so many people that are going through what you are, and I am one of them! if you ever want to talk or vent about how hard it is or want advice, feel free to message me. I am more than happy to help you as we both go through boot camp on the opposite side. Best of luck to you and your boyfriend! (:
