I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp This website was sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes to military relationships. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to when he was in bootcamp because we are now living together out here in California and Im a Nursing Major and I work full time (whew!) but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions for me make a discussion topic and i will see it and respond. Take Care ♥

Brittney- I think that only falls under if they are single. But I think it is a E3 or E4I have not heard of that rule applying if they are married. My husband was living out in town as an E4.

Hey Ladies, I've been hearing that the guys can't live off base until they are a certain rank. Is this true and if so what rank do they need to be?

Yeah, that site's just being nasty to me. Certain areas seem to be working if I'm persistent enough.

Off the main Cinchouse site click on Military living at the top. it will give you a drop down box and give you the Newbie site to click on. Also another good site to keep in your back pocket is NMFA- National Military Family Association. www.nmfa.org - lots of great up to date benefits information.

Smoke
Just go to www.cinchouse.com - I gave you the link page that I thought would be easier for you to get to the information. I had no problems getting on last night but could be a server issue today. Sorry it did not work... but the main link works. K

Margaret- We lived in Virginia Beach for 5 years both our kids were born there- The only hospital for all the bases is Portsmouth Naval Hospital. The rest of medical are what they called Tricare clinics. A suggestion- if you have an address you can look it up on Google earth and get a view of the area. The must see's while you are there are the Norfolk Botanical gardens, Drive out to Colonial Williamsburg and James town- Plus you will be 1 1/2 hours from Nags head north Carolina- were the first plane flew by the Wrights brothers. Also you are only 4 hours from DC. We wanted to stay in Virginia Beach- My husband was stationed at Norfolk- But like I said it depends on the factors you are looking to avoid - Jet noise, robbery and shootings. Again let me know and I can help you out as much as I can- They do have a great family support center and the exchanges are all pretty new as well as the commissaries.

Does anyone know how to read the articles on http://www.cinchouse.com/MilitaryLiving/NewbiesBrides/tabid/82/Default.aspx

I've been clicking links like nuts, and the only thing it does it reload the list of articles. Registering didn't help.

We lived in the Kempsville/centerville area Most the areas near the base are not good areas. Most folks live in Virginia Beach or Oceana. Do not live across the bridge to Hampton. Traffic across the bridges are murder. I have a great friend in Virgina Beach who is a Realtor as well as a property manager- Let me know if you want her contact information. it all depends on if you want to hear alot of Jet noise as well.

Thanks. We plan to live off base and I'm trying to find an apartment for around 800. Speaking of, does anyone know good areas to live in Norfolk. I'm trying to look at apartments online but I don't know if they are in a crappy area or not.

I wish we could find rent that low here. We pay 300 out of pocket for our mortgage. Back in the late 80's our BAH covered rent and utilities. When we were in NOLA 2003 and 2005 it was public private housing- did not matter your rank same house - and what ever your BAH was went to your rent. I had a commanders wife aas a friend and we lived in exactly the same house just 2 streets away- his BAH was higher but he did not get a bigger house. when we moved to Atlanta our BAH was above our mortgage now it is below due to BRAC and lack of military in the area. it all depends on your rank and the location-
