I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Hey, Danii, I have relatives in Chula Vista, LOL. Yeah, it isn't so bad.

I used to live in San Diego, but it has been a few years. We're going next week for vacation!

There are many, many neighborhoods. We lived in "Birdland" which is a tiny mesa above Mission Valley. It was really nice, but there aren't a lot of rentals there. I wouldn't live in National City if you paid me; that's South Bay area. I guess Chula Vista is alright, but not my first choice. A lot of my friends lived in El Cajon, East County area, but it is hotter there, not my favorite. I've heard La Mesa is okay but I don't have much experience with that neighborhood. College area, might not find cheap places available. I do know Linda Vista and Clairemont were okay, we were very near it (across the freeway). North is good, but pricier, and a longer commute. Still, if you go to look at a rental and you get a bad vibe, trust your gut about it.

The housing office will have lists of approved rentals, which are places that do not have a history of ripping off sailors or discriminating. You can ask there where they would recommend.

The navy has a great site for information for dependents called LifeLines. one section is on getting married. what's good about this site is it can send you in the right direction for more information.

About packages sent to deployed ships: the restrictions are the same as with the post office, and you can't send stuff like porn and booze. There are size restrictions, of course. The flat rate APO/FPO boxes at the post office are perfect.

Food? You have to choose carefully, because if the package takes three or four weeks of rough handling, well, that's not so great. And if you have things in there that smell, like deoderant, the smell can get into the food. Don't send glass containers, they may break unless you pack it really, really well.

My friend asked for packages at sea and he said NO chocolate or fudge, it would be a melted mess. Cookies are fine, but you really have to pack them tightly in containers or a vacuum-sealed bag. Chips tend be crumbs by the time they get there. He wanted instant noodles and a camelbak bottle and those packs of energy drink powder.

And remember, if the ship is a smaller one, the mail is sometimes slung over from the supply ship. Mailbags do fall into the ocean now and then, so don't send anything irreplaceable or super-valuable.

WELCOME!

I've been there, but we were both active duty. The first two years we were married we only saw each other a total of 28 days. DAYS! But he and I really never have fought, still don't. Personally, I just kept on with my life although I missed him a lot. Neither of us could blame the other for what the Navy had handed us. We both trusted each other, there was no question that one of us would wander. We talked, but he isn't big on heartfelt talks, some guys aren't.

You just have to cultivate patience. Know that whatever anxiety and depression a separation brings, it is temporary and eventually you both can move forward with each other.

Listen to yourself during a fight. Think about what you're saying and why you say it. Love isn't mean, love isn't name-calling, make sure your words and actions reflect your love. It isn't easy, but you can try. Sometimes you just have to deal with the frustration by yourself and not hand it to your guy. I'm not saying bottle things up, but sometimes it isn't the right time to unload your feelings. Meditate, pray, learn relaxation techniques, whatever takes the pressure off (that's good for you).

I know you can all make it through this tough time. Hang in there.

Virginia Beach is alright.

don't ask questions about ship's movement here, that's an OPSEC violation. I found the website for the ship, you should be able to contact someone official who can answer your questions in a safe manner. There is a family section of the ship site, you probably can find a lot of good information there.

Rena, have you seen our interfaith group? We're small, but open to all faiths and beliefs.

Melissa, it depends on how soon he's leaving for boot camp. Getting married beforehand changes the orders and paperwork, and that could delay his departure. Getting a license doesn't make sense, because these are usually only good for a limited time. Are you going to get married in Great Lakes? Because he cannot come home between boot camp and A school.
