Group for Mom's of Gunners Mates in A School or on Duty

Members: 89

I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

My GM son will be leaving his ship and be stationed at Yokosuka, Japan in the armory. As there are many ships based at Yokosuka, he will probably meet some of your sailors. Kathy and I are already doing the mom thing :-)

This is not a wisdom tooth. Just a molar that has grown in sideways. Actually it has come in since his braces were removed about 2 yrs ago. he said they told him he would be dropped from his class. They told him during bootcamp that this tooth should come out, but they never called him back to dentist. I guess since SCC is only 12 day course, 2 days makes a difference. I'm sure Tyler will do fine, although he's never had a tooth pulled while he was awake. Do they allow them softer foods during the two days and plenty of liquids to drink? I know his ship doesn't allow food or drink onboard. I wonder how he'll be able to get enough liquids?

my son had 2 teeth pulled also-wisdom teeth. It set him back and dropped him out of his original choice of air water rescue.he was doing his training on base with the marines so kinda expected to keep up no matter. He is going to train for the riverines now and is pretty excited. He bounced back pretty good.

Joanie, are they doing that now? My son had a couple of teeth pulled when he was in GL and was in SIQ a couple of days, but wasn't dropped. He said that more than half of the class had to have teeth pulled and that the Navy expected that, and that 2 days of SIQ was not going to cause a set back and it didn't

Well, a slight set back for Tyler. He has to have a tooth pulled on Thursday and will be SIQ 2 days. He will be dropped from his SCC class and will have to wait for another class to start. Keep him in your prayers.

Our son had PIR in Sept, went to GM school in GL, left for A school in San Diego, and is just about done with C school. So, he orginally started boot camp in July, its been over a year and he is just getting ready to move on to his first duty station in Pearl Harbor, (his first choice on his wish list, and he was not at the top of his class, about the middle)
BETH, we came out to SD 8/19-8/26. I can certainly understand why you want to stay there. It is beautiful!! The weather, compared to NYS is soooooooo much nicer. We had a great time!!

My son graduated from boot camp in November. He will leave Great Lakes Sept 10. He is very happy to be on his way.

If I understand it correctly, when the orders are available for a class, they get to choose in order of how well they are currently doing in the class. So, if your sailor is really set on certain orders, he needs to make sure he's near the top of the class in order to have a better chance of getting those. We are really wanting San Diego orders as we own a home here and I have a full time job here, and he is either 1st or 2nd in his class, so I'm really hoping there are some SD orders available when he gets to pick. He's been in GL since November 09, we're all ready for him to get back home soon.

Regarding their wish list of places they wish to be stationed, does the Navy try to accomodate them if possible..
