Confused and Concerned.

Sorry I'm not a mom, but a wife. My husband is graduating boot camp October 9th (yay). Anyhow he is supposed to be going for a Submarine Machinist Mate, and orignally we were told he would be going to Groton first for Sub School and then A school either in Groton or Kings Bay. Now when I had his last call he said they were keeping him in Great Lakes and that he was doing A school there first and then going to Groton because Great Lakes got new schools. His Uncle who did 20 years Navy has told me over and over that they are sending him to ships and there is no way if he's going to A school first he'll be on a sub. He volunteered subs it was in his contract. I wrote my husband about it and they told him he IS going subs and that it was because there is new schools. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm just concerned because I know Submarines is really what my husband wants to do. It's tough when you really don't know what's going on. Thanks in advance!

that sounds weird to me, and I don't know a lot about it, but my son just graduated boot camp on Sept 11 and at first they told him he would go to Groton for sub school , then back to Great Lakes for A school but now he is in Groton and it seems he will go to A school there. We heard virtually the ame thing, but he is in Groton so... I don't know. He is also in for Machinist Mate.

I know you wrote this some time ago, but my son who is going for submarines too, was told originally that he was going to stay in Great Lakes IL for A School. It is true that they have a new school for the submarine there too, and I guess A School is kind of the prereq for the following schools. But I just found out yesterday that he is going directly to Groton the day following graduation which will be this next weekend. I had the same concern when it was Groton originally, then changed to Great Lakes, but now it is Groton again. :0)
