How do we find out when graduation is?

Comment by janlee on May 8, 2011 at 10:35pm

janh--Hi and welcome!!--i Know it seems like you just go t the hang of BC groups and now its time for another STEP in this crazy process,,,lol  First your son will attend BESS, like cjasmin says. That is abiout 8 weeks long. Then he will attend two more technical schools ( ATT and TCNO). These both last about 4 weeks each. After that, he wil start his actual Aschooling.

Life in Groton is pretty much like college life. he will have roommates (2), and they will buy their own food and things they need for their dorm. You are able to send him anything he wants. (food, personal products, clothes, games, pics, etc..) pretty much as if he is away at college. You will find this SO much better than BC. You will have regular contact with him, and can even visit him. Its SO much more relaxed.

There will be another graduation after BESS, but it is much more personal and more relaxed than PIR.

Any questions about liberty, visits, whatever...just post them here and someone will answer..:))

I am really green...so bear with me while I get onboard...what is BESS? I just got the hang of RTC and the steps they go through there. If someone could give me a basic step through of the process once they leave RTC, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi new people,

Your sons will be so happy to be at sub school.  Boot Camp indoctrination is very intense and they will be glad to find the air a little relaxed.  Every one is so nice and helpful at the base.  To be a submariner is like a brotherhood.  Once they have graduated BESS, they are in.

Martian, the official name is "Naval Submarine Base New London" but it's actually located across the river from New London, in Groton. :)

Hello Everyone. I'm a newbie. My sailor arrived at Groton yesterday. I'm confused..is the official name of the base "Groton" or "New London"? Thanks and Happy Mother's Day!
