mammiri--haha...typical Casino trip..you laugh and talk the whole way there, but the ride home is quiet and LONG..lol
Thanks ladies...im going to pass this info onto her..it will make her feel a little better. I know shes worried about working once she gets there.
cjasmin--yes..they are. they went apartment hunting while we were up there for BESS graduation. EXPENSIVE!! Well, to us it is anyway. We live in a small town in western PA, so anything over 400.00 a month is expensive to us...lol They found some really nice ones to think over. With only his Navy pay...they would struggle, but shes planning on working full time (hopefully she finds something), and they should be allright. they will just need to watch there spending.
Ive heard that there is a casino up there somewhere...does anyone know how close that is to Groton?
janlee - Ok . . . I will now give you a break. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to provide answers to questions you have probably heard many times before. This is all very new to our family but I have to say this has been a great experience thus far. Part of that great experience is due to the outstanding people that contribute to this forum. Thanks again.
defiance--ATT is a technical (dont know exactly what) school they attend after BESS. It is 4 weeks long (no graduation...lol). As for the 7 days of leave they had...after they graduated BESS they were told that the ATT classes were backed up and would be a while until they could get placed into a class. That is what they describe as 'on hold'...Some of the boys/men took advantage of the hold time to put in for some leave to come home. Not all were granted and some didnt even put in for it. My son recently got engaged, and he was looking forward to coming home for a week..:))
He knows several boys who have family close to the base, or in a neighboring state, so these boys are able to visit with family on weekends, as they are within close range. We are from PA, too far..these were the ones who didnt put in for leave. Also..they accumulate leave days while in there, and the 7 days he took off, were deducted from his days. However...they are able to visit with their hometown recruiting office while on leave, and that keeps the days from being deducted, but my son chose not to do that....dont ask me why, im sure he wanted to spend as much time with his fiance as possible..idk..lol
janlee - Again, thank you for the information. Of course, no good deed goes unpunished as each of your responses generates more questions from me. If you don't mind, you mentioned one of his buddies having 7 days leave. Is that due to earning the 7 days based upon time spent in the Navy or something to do with having gruaduated BESS. Secondly, when you say your son has been "on hold", does that mean he has been somewhat in limbo . . . finished with BESS but not yet ready to begin ATT (whatever that is)?
defiance--they wont need their vehicles right away. From my experience, all of my sons friends didnt try to get their cars until after BESS graduation. One of his buddies took his 7 days leave time to fly home to CA and then drive his truck back while pulling his motorcycle behind it...i couldnt imagine that drive (of course..they are young...lol). My son doesnt even want his vehicle. His GF is moving there next month and he said he will just use hers. So i now find myself in possession of a somewhat decent pick-up truck..haha!
Also...my son graduated BESS several weeks ago and has been on hold. He finally started his ATT classes yesterday and he had to move from his the room they were in for BESS (making room for the arriving groups) and he did switch roommates. Thankfully...he knows his new roommate pretty well, and is pretty happy with the change. Although he was VERY good friends with his old ones since BC..
